Can Rainey Play in the NFL?

We literally fumbled that game away - watching all of our backs fumble in the same game was a disgrace and a total embarrassment. I don't know who's conditioning our running backs, but whoever it is - he's not doing a very good job. Still, it comes down to player execution. Batch played as well as could with one week of training (for some reason, Tomlin is one of the few coaches who doesn't involve his backup QBs during weekly regular season practices - not even for a few reps - with Leftwich and now Batch, you can see the result of that.)

I was sadly nervous when we were up by 7 within the first minute of play - it seems like anytime we score and lead early these days, we end up falling apart not long after.

And as others pointed out, Rainey is hardly to blame - he at least put points on the board. All of the backs screwed the pooch. Batch played well in fits, but given his age and how rusty he was coming in, the offensive line and the backs needed to step it up a notch or three..not play like a second string high school football squad.

And even though Dwyer fumbled today - the fact that everyone else did sort of nullifies the argument that he somehow sucks more than anyone else. At this point, I'd take Dwyer any day of the week over Mendy. And as for Redman and, again, Rainy - they could be assets to this team - if they were, I dunno, played correctly and more strategically - you know, in ways that play to their strengths.

I feel like sometimes the Steelers this year are just playing it by ear (with all the injuries, maybe they are) - but that doesn't mean you just throw people in certain positions of play just to "see what happens". Well, we've seen the results. With or without Ben, there was no reason why we should have lost this game. And yet...here we are.

I don't blame Rainey as much for his fumble. He took a BIG hit and got injured on that play. The fact that he is so small doesn't help with those hits either.

His touchdown though was a beauty.

That was actually one of the most impressive rushing TDs I've seen in some time. He might be small - but with that play, I saw a hell of a lot of promise and potential. We just need to learn how to use the players we have more effectively.

He needs to put on some weight. If he can get bigger while maintaining his level of speed, he would be something.

I agree that Rainey could be effective if used properly. As I have stated in another post, he looks like a "puny human" on a field filled with Hulks. He probably will be out for a while after that last hit. I think he may have a very bad injury. Look for The Steelers to put him on IR this week and bring up some other player from the practice squad (possibly Baron Batch or some other Offensive Lineman)

Have they stated what injury he suffered exactly? My first thought was a deep thigh bruise, which I have had and I know how bad it hurts. Hoping he didn't break his freaking leg.

just how many 20 carry games do you think Rainey would make before injured? Maybe not even 20 carries total .
