well, I think the Steelers just wanted a WR with playoff experience on their roster. What is it with you and the age of 35? Between this thread and the one about Harrison getting back to form, you sound like you're advocating some team rule against players turning 35. You know Batch is 38 don't you? Between Batch and Harrison, I think we got our money's worth seeing the Ravens get beat at home and keeping our playoff hopes alive.
Nobody's throwing a parade for Plex, or expecting him to be a star on this team. He's here as a back-up, probably looking to move on in the offseason.

right but why sign on another player so late in the season and for what purpose? Why would we waste (If you will-no disrespect to Plax) if we don't need him or aren't going to use him? Did we need to fill a spot so late in the season? I don't get it.

never hurts to have more depth, but with AB back, i don't know if plax will get many more chances barring injury.
but it wouldn't hurt to also try plax in some redzone / goalline packages, he could be dangerous like heath in those situations (and the defense would have to account for 2 big targets) |

I think he can really make a difference for this team if used correctly. Plax is a tall WR and could really tear up the middle with his veteran route running and jump ball capabilities. If Wallace and Brown are on the field then the defense is already having to account for their tremendous speed, so are there many defenses that can cover speed and a 6'5 WR who runs routes well? Probably not. And in the red zone, he and Miller would really give the defense fits. In fact if I was within 5 yards of the goal line I would play Miller, Plax, and Pope. Two guys that are 6'5 and another that's 6'10...who's going to be able to blanket 3 guys like that? Who knows, maybe I play too much Madden, but I just think Plax's size and veteran route running adds a new dynamic to the WR corps and should be capitalized on.

If he was signed, there was merit. I believe in the FO and this was a good signing, IMO. So what if he sits? As long as he isn't a distraction, we now have a guy that has played and won in a SB. How do we lose? Obviously we had to waive another WR to sign him but it remains to be seen as to what that will amount too. Plax may not, or he may, make an impact but I can't imagine it hurts to have a guy with his stats on this team. Also, Wallace is gone next year. Why not see what Plax can do and see if he can't get a year or two back in the league and then retire? Again, vet min and not a distraction=win for us. Just my opinion.

We couldn't use him because we never got into the redzone with Batch and Leftwich. He's a redzone specialist at this point in his career and there's nothing wrong with that. Ben should be able to get him the ball in one-on-one coverage, and he'll haul in a few more touchdowns this season for us.

At one time the team was in the same situation it is now with receivers, who to sign, how much and how long...Plax or Hines Ward. Then it became clear, Plax was lazy and gave half efforts in times of need. 35 is just a number, could be 32, 36, 37 depending on the player and position. Batch is a QB, Quarterbacks play longer. Plax could not hold Harrisons jockstrap as a player. Harrison gives 100% every play. without the high cap number, James is back without a doubt. My whole issue with Burress is that we signed a thug. If the Bengals would have signed him, everybody on this board would have berated them for it. So now we will have to live with that as an organization. If he becomes a force, maybe it was worth it. If he does not, We still signed a player that will be associated with us for years to come.

Knowing how he connected with Ben in 04, I'd have no problem dressing 5 WR's and giving him a chance. Why not?

To the people who are saying he's washed up: this guy caught 8 TDs last year with Mark Sanchez at QB. I think he has something left.
