We could rest up against Cleveland.

The only way that I don't see this working is if the Jets win two straight, the Bengals beat Philly, and the Colts lose two straight... that could potentially produce a 4-way tie for 9-7 after the final week, which we could miss out on the playoffs due to common opponents or strength of victory if either the Bengals or Jets would qualify for the 5th seed over the Colts, who would then probably take the 6th seed. So, we'd potentially have to play out week 17.

It looks to me like even though we've played like shit for half the year, we could still end up with an effective "bye" with wins in the next 2 weeks...

Well we already know that our players are going to rest up against Cleveland in any case, so we might as well shoot for a playoff berth before that.

Remember when Ben caught a spinal concussion in Cleveland in the last week of the season? I do. So..... him.

cleveland is no bye, that defense is fierce. even though they're not a great overall team, that D will hit you

Dallas was the only game that concerned me out of the last 4 games. Thanks to playing like crap, San Diego effectively put us in the untenable situation of having to pretty much win out. If we don't win out, even if we make the playoffs, I don't think this team has the determination to go very far. I hope the players see the urgency that is needed to finish out the season. If not, it is yet another disappointing season.

Ok, I thought OP was talking about a real bye week. Not sure how I missed that. Can't see why anybody would be excited about being able to half ass it against the Browns though. Our players don't need to rest, we just got embarrassed by a terrible team.

I took it as:
The season isn't over.

Or, more deeply:
Win the next two games, and that last game won't even matter... making it, essentially a "bye." And thus, the season is far from over (despite an embarrassing loss).

There are alot of scenarios that can happen. We could even lose to Dallas and still win the division as crazy as that is. Baltimore would have to lose out (Denver, Giants, Cincy) and us beat Cincy and Cleveland.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/machine This is a fun thing to use to play with different scenarios

Regardless of what happens, If we make the playoffs it looks like we will be playing the Ravens.

In short, the Steelers must beat the Bengals and either the Browns or Cowboys.

They could beat the cowboys and Browns and lose to the Bengals and still get a wild card. The ravens would have to beat the Bengals in week 17 for that to happen.
