Default Would You

Would you trade a second or third round pick to get a young backup Qb for the future. Someone with a durable body unlike Batch and Lefty and could possibly be the Qb of the future. I wouldnt mind seeing a trade for Kirk Cousins, he'll never play over RG3 and I always liked him when he was at MSU.

Why trade and not draft one?
A back-up QB is someone who could be called any time replace Ben, so he better be a proven player. A young/inexperienced QB who has never played an NFL game (besides pre-season) can't be this guy. If we're thinking of a 2nd back-up ( 3rd QB), let's draft him instead of wasting a 2nd or 3rd pick for getting a guy as inexperienced as a rookie and 2-3 years older.

No.

Draft a back-up in R5-7. That said, this is a weak year for QBs.

I would rather draft a QB but like stated above this year seems week at the position. Bens only got a few good years left in my opinion because of the way he plays the game.

I have said the same thing before. It's scary to think that Ben played the last game without any extra protection. I predict that he'll be out of the league in about 3 years. I hope I'm wrong but I wouldn't be surprised if he were forced out. I liked the look of that Cousins kid. He may be a good fit. But I think it's time for the front office to start thinking about an heir apparent. Maybe not for next year for the draft class but thereafter it's worth considering.

As much as it pains me to say it Batch should probably be hanging up the cleats after this season and Byron Leftwich is made of porcelain and just isn't a dependable backup. Cousins will likely be trade bait next season based on the recent trend of backup quarterbacks that look good in playing time getting traded off for decent money (see Kevin Kolb, and Matt Flynn). I think bringing back Jerod Johnson for another go around in the preaseason and drafting a rookie quarterback is our best route. Jerod Johnson impressed me in the preseason and I still can't figure out why he didn't get another chance.

No... The Steelers need to address more pressing needs in the draft. It is too soon to start grooming a successor to Big Ben. Plus, draft choices require larger contracts, which would mean giving up money that could be better spent under the salary cap. They may sign another undrafted free agent, but it will take him time to develop. With the veteran free agents that are usually available, it makes more sense to just sign a back up QB.

lot of "no's" around - but its a cold, hard fact that we have to do SOMETHING to address this - and it can't be a bottom-feeder taken last. Might not WANT to do it - but we are forced to do something.
