A little bit of luck, and a whole lot of Luck.
![]() I'm guessing that the latter is the main difference. |

It'll most likely end up being Mike Smith or Gary Kubiak who would get the AP NFL Head Coach of the Year.

John Fox deserves a mention. He has taken a 4-12 team to consecutive playoff appearances. He is an underrated head coach for certain. His career coaching record is 92-82 and before Peyton his top qb had been Jake Del Homme. Head coaches are only as good as their star quarterbacks.

Taking a 3 win Colts team to the playoffs is by far the best reason to be COY.

The same logic was used when Tony Sparano won it in 2008 for the Miami dolphins 10-game turnaround and playoff birth. Of course they got easily thrashed in the playoffs, at home, and have sucked ever since... Not saying the Arians lead colts will suffer the same fate, but just something else to think about.

No mention of Mike Shanahan? Redskins go from 5-11 to the playoffs in spite of 18M in cap penalties and the toughest schedule in the NFL. Redskins played the Giants and Cowboys twice each, Ravens, Steelers, Bengals, Saints, Vikings, Rams and Falcons.
Colts had the easiest schedule in the league.
