I LMAO every time I think of a kicker going the first round too. I got to admit he was worth it though, he has been the best player at his position for that team since his arrival. IMO he's the best Kicker EVER. I know there have been a lot of great kickers, but Janikowski's range is unbelievable, and he's a legitimate tackler on kickoff returns. I live in California and have been to a few Raiders games with a few of my friends who are Raiders fans, during the warm ups Janikowski is usually dead money from 70 YARDS!

If Suisham plays like he did this year then we're set at kicker. I agree though, that list is not impressive. We're a better managed organization then any of the teams that drafted the players on that list though so hopefully we can get someone on defense that is the real deal, and not average like some of our recent defensive draft picks. If we can get DeCastro at #24 then we can find someone at #17.

I think the more important number would be impact players drafted AFTER #16 wouldn't it? Not just the #17 pick.

Sebastian Janikowski (2000) Great kicker but weird pick.
Steve Hutchinson (2001) All-Pro
Chad Greenway (2006) Probowler
Gosder Cherilus (2008) Lions bust - expected
Josh Freeman (2009) 4000 yard passer
Mike Iupati (2010) Probowler

Not bad at all

Emmit Smith was a #17 pick!

Draft Matt Elam with the #17 pick!

He played for Florida and wears #22!!!!

Can't go wrong!

Mclendon will easily replace Hampton.

I am hoping the Steelers don't waste a pick on a RB. At least not until the late rounds.

Better start hitting home runs again. If Mendenhall, Wallace, and Lewis are all gone, that leaves Ziggy Hood from the 2008 and 2009 classes.

Discuss.
Hell, we got Heath Miller at pick #30.

I really wouldn't call a RB pick a waste unless it's in the first round. Just because Arian Foster and Alfred Morris have found success doesn't mean anything, the vast majority of reliable, workhorse backs are taken in the first few rounds. I'd argue the lack of a true RB this year was our biggest hole and possibly the biggest reason for our collapse. No RB this year is worth a first round pick but round 2 or 3 would not be a waste and I'd actually be more upset if we don't take one there.

Since 2001, the Steelers haven't done too bad picking in the middle of the first round, better than some of the teams that picked higher.

2010 Maurkice Pouncey #18
2007 Lawrence Timmons #15
2003 Troy Polamalu #16
2001 Casey Hampton #19
