Default NFL Hall of Fame 2013 Class

The Pro Football Hall of Fame class for 2013 was announced on Saturday with a total of seven new members being chosen for induction. The 2013 class includes Larry Allen, Cris Carter, Jonathan Ogden, Bill Parcells and Warren Sapp. Curley Culp and Dave Robinson made the Hall of Fame as part of the senior class voting process.

Writers spent nearly nine hours to winnow the list of candidates down to five inductees. After settling on 10 candidates, the group discussed each one individually before taking an up and down vote on that candidate.

Parcells was elected to the Hall of Fame in his second time on the ballot. After retiring following the 1999 season, Parcells was a finalist in 2001 and 2002 before returning to the sideline. He was a finalist again in 2012. During his 22 seasons as a head coach, Parcells won 172 regular season games and two Super Bowls. He led his team to the playoffs 10 times. Parcells coached four different teams, leading each to a .500 record or better.

Ogden was one of five players selected for induction in their first season on the ballot. After being selected with the No. 4 pick of the 1996 NFL Draft, Ogden went on to play 12 seasons in the NFL, all with the Baltimore Ravens. He was voted to the Pro Bowl in 11 of his 12 seasons while being selected as a first-team All-Pro four times. Ogden started 172 games during his career and was in the discussion for the best left tackle in the league. As if that wasn't enough, he also caught two touchdown passes during his career.

Allen was also inducted on his first appearance on the ballot. He spent 14 seasons in the NFL after being selected in the second round of the 1994 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. Allen, who played 12 of his 14 seasons in Dallas, was voted to 11 Pro Bowls and was selected to the first-team All-Pro team six times. Known as one of, if not the most dominant guards in the NFL, Allen started 197 games during his career.

After being a finalist five times, Carter was selected in his sixth season on the ballot. An eight-time Pro-Bowl selection and two-time All-Pro, Carter is fourth in NFL history in both touchdown receptions with 130 and receptions with 1,101. He topped the 1,000-yard mark eight times and led the league in touchdown receptions three times. He played 12 of his 16 years with the Minnesota Vikings.

After a 13-year NFL career, Sapp was selected as a first ballot Hall of Famer. He is arguably the best pass rushing interior defensive lineman in NFL history. He finished his career with 96.5 sacks, including a career-high 16.5 in 2000. In addition to being voted to seven Pro Bowls and being selected as a first-team All-Pro four times, Sapp was also named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1999.

Art Modell, the long-time owner of the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens, did not make the cut again, after being either a finalist or semi-finalist nine times. After purchasing the Cleveland Browns in 1961, Modell remained the majority owner of the organization for 44 seasons. He had a successful run in Cleveland, including 17 postseason appearances and a NFL championship. The Ravens made the playoffs three times while Modell was owner, including winning Super Bowl XXXV. Modell, who sold the Ravens in 2004, died in September 2012. His inclusion as one of the finalists stirred considerable debate among Cleveland fans still unhappy with his handling of the team's move.

Also not making the cut were: former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr, Jerome Bettis, Tim Brown, Andre Reed and Kevin Greene, as well as Will Shields, Michael Strahan and Aeneas Williams.

Jerome Bettis shouldve gotten in, no doubt about that.

His 3.9 YPC average is likely causing voters to pass on him in favor of other candidates.

This is becoming a bit of a joke. If you're on the NFL network you get in - GUARANTEED.

Many pundits have made the case for Charles Haley and I would have to agree. There aren't too many players with 5 rings and he was a great defensive force to boot.
