Not necessarily, but an Archbishop or someone he personally appointed and/or put in a position of power. If there's already a new Pope in place, the story wouldn't explode the way it would have.

I mean, it could backfire and the media will have a field day with the story but if it is indeed because of pedophilia, I'm glad he's doing the honorable thing and removing himself. I mean, this came out of nowhere. Something's up.

Pope Benedict XVI Resigning Papacy To Coach Football At Penn State

The Vatican announced that Pope Benedict XVI will being leaving Rome and head to Pennsylvania to begin getting ready for next years football season as head coach of the Nittany Lions.

Looking at the recent history of youth sex scandal and abuse coming from the team the 85-year-old Pontiff feels they could use someone far more experienced and better at shifting blame to cover it all up.

In a recent tweet the Pope said, “Joe Paterno tried his best to keep it all under cover, but they could really use a pro.” Then seconds later he tweeted, “They need to just shift coaches from team to team to really keep it under wraps.”

When asked if he understands football well enough to coach Pope Benedict replied, “I’m just a figurehead, everyone else always does the work for me anyway. It’s merely just a shift in job title.”

Come this fall when the Nittany Lions take the field we’ll see how well Coach Bennie will prevail.

Before he was pope and just a cardinal he was responsible for moving around several sexual predators and keeping their crimes private. The policies the church had for victims of sexual abuse was insane. Excommunication for victims if they spoke out about the alleged crime until they reached a certain age. He wasn't a predator himself but the way he protected the church from scandal is outrageous. He is supposed to be the vicar of Christ? Yeah, right. The late Christopher Hitchens spoke of this often and I remember him debating that asshole Donahue (the head of the Catholic League, not the talk show guy) on youtube, it would be easy to find.

I could go on and on and on about the Vatican. They have their own god-damned city state, a palace filled with ostentatious and garish wealth. It is apparent in which life these men want power and prestige and it sure isn't the afterlife. I'm sure Jesus would look at the Vatican or church at large and be filled with joy at the direction they've taken the past twelve hundred years.

Agreed about his activities both in Germany and when in Rome prior to becoming Pope - but that is all out there - the post to which I responded was whether his sudden abdication is because a new scandal is about to blow up
