I know he smoked some pot before the combine but we hit gold in the second round with him and he was first round talent. Can't wait to see how he has progressed this year.

The Steelers as a team have a lot riding on next year's performances of Adams and Gilbert.

Right now if I had to pick one, I have more confidence in Adams playing better and more consistently.

The question is can they both stay healthy and this year they did not.

I think I am unlike most on this board in that I think we have some future stars on our OLine. The one caveat, and it's a HUGE one, is that they have to stay healthy. They all have the pedigree and have, at times, shown flashes of being very good, but they have to stay healthy. That's all. IMO

Adams has yet to demonstrate that he can handle speed rushers. His foot work and balance is not good.

The good news is he is mobile, but is late geting out of his stance and landing his punch early. When he does get square on his man, which is rare at LT, he does a passible job at best. They say he's got a ton of upside, but I gurantee you, you will be seeing a lot of growing pains out there.

If I were Ben, I'd be really nervous with MA at LT. What I'm afraid of is Gilbert may not be that much better.

Gilbert is Max Starks, part II.

Adams is Marvel Smith, part II.

Strangely, like Starks, Gilbert is better at LT than at RT. Like Smith, Adams is a R1 talent, who dropped due to his weediness. Neither Starks nor Smith started as rookies; they were given time to develop... something that hasn't been done with Gilbert & Adams. If people can deal with the growing pains... people will be rewarded: by the end of next season, they should be one of the best tackle tandems in the NFL.

I am more concerned with the LT.

Spot on on the Starks-Gillbert comparrison. As for Smith-Adams, Marvel was much more polished and had good foot work coming out of college.

I agree with the upside point of view. We could have the best upcoming line in the league right before our very eyes. And like they say, a great OL will cover a lot of other problems.

Thank you for bringing some rational thought to this topic. Smith was graded by many scouts as a late 1st round pick in his draft year. A guy that was tabbed to play LT in the NFL and did very well when Wayne Gandy left.

Adams and Gilbert will be fine. So many here are hacking on Gilbert as being some kind of slug, but watch his combine film http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-combin...Marcus-Gilbert or better yet, if you can find his game tape against the Eagles his rookie year in preseason, you see a guy that handles speed rushers.

I still think we got a decent starting OT in Adams at a bargain.
