Default 49ers agree to trade Alex Smith to Chiefs

The San Francisco 49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, according to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports. The trade won't be official until March 12th.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports the Chiefs will trade second-round pick this year - the top pick in second round - as well as another conditional mid-round pick in 2014.

A good trade for both teams IMO. The Chiefs really pick the wrong year to have the no.1 pick. Alex Smith no doubt is a better investment.

They get the LT they need in the draft

Are you referring to Geno Smith?

Should've used the second rounder on a quarterback that you can groom for the future. How many years does SMith have left. Bad trade on both sides tbh. Kaep has a legitimate chance to regress from this year with all the time and new tape teams have to study, plus his style of play increasees his chances to get hurt, and Smith's a proven player who thrived under Harbaugh.

Alex Smith definitely improved his game under Harbaugh. I think it was a good move by KC. If Kaepernick continues to improve SF will be in good position as well.

Smith has more years than a coach with no QB would have. Who could they get in the 2nd who's better?

Mock drafts I've seen have had bothGeno and Barkley in the late first-early second bracket. Wouldn't surprise me if either fell to the 33rd pick, and Barkley particularly has a shot to be a franchise qb in the league if he starts in a good system. I'd rather keep the picks and take my chances on someone to build around. Both of their ceilings are higher than Alex's, and they would both generate fan interest more than Alex. Besides, Alex has failed more often than not when forced to learn a new system, it was only until Harbaugh came along when he really became pretty good. Reid's system isn't the most friendly to a game managing quarterack like Alex. I just don't see it ending well for them.
