I hope the Steelers keep Roethlisberger around for another 4-5 years. The mighty Brett Favre and the Packers went 4-12 in '05.... and then 13-3 two years later in '07. If the Packers can do it... the Steelers can too. As bad as things are right now for the Steelers.... they can do well in this upcoming draft, get the younger players on the field and pick up some decent free agents and be right back in the playoff hunt in 1-2 years.

I agree with the lot who say we are a few people from being a contender again. A solid LT, NT, ILB and CB. For all the bitching ppl did about Foote, he was the force is stopping the running game and his loss was bigger than most will admit. We need a legit NT for our def to work. We need a solid LT and keep most of our current line. I think we should move Pouncey to LG and keep Velasco at Center, DD, Gilbert/Beachem/Adams and a solid LT. Foster as a backup, Gilbert/Adams and Beachem as backups. ILB is up in the air. I think Spence would be a perfect fit as he would be better in coverage allowing LT to step up in the running game, but who knows about him, Williams is playing better, but is out of position and whiffs more tackles then he should. We obviously made a mistake in letting Lewis go, so we need to correct that one and have a new #1 CB with Ike being the #2. Shemarko will be fine in replacing Clark and Troy has a few more years left. Biggest need, we need either JJ to step up next season the be the rusher we all hoped for, or we need a real outside rusher. Harrison was one of the top while he was here for sure, and he made Woodley better. Woodley is not JH, and so we need someone on the other side to pull their weight. Funny, our Def always had the top LB's in the game (as long as I remember anyway) and this season this is one of our biggest issues (and it shows).

Ed.B. of the P-G shares his view in his chat today

The Roethlisberger contract talks will be quite interesting and I do not know how they will go. Just don't look for Ben to take less than what he is worth, and why should he?

so that the Steelers would have enough $ left under the salary cap to put some other pieces around Ben and try to win another Super Bowl before Ben retires?

I'll say it again - Ben as a Texan might be a greener pasture for him

sounds crazy - but not as crazy as it sounded only a season or two ago

That has been kicked around by Sports Guy Bill Simmons among others but the Texans now have their own issues about windows closing and fans hating on the coach

The question is whether Ben will act out if he does not get an extension - signing Ben to another nine figure contract has some definite risks for whichever team does it

That is true! It does seem to be a little easier to find a QB this past decade. Less massive busts than the 70s-90s era.

ummm...jamarcus russell, christian ponder, jake locker, brady quinn, byron leftwich, david carr, vince young, j.p. losman...etc etc etc!!! and the jury is still out on kaepernick and rg 3!!! i dont think getting rid of your franchise qb for an unproven rookie would be smart at all!

Roethlisberger admits he's 'ignorant' toward his contract

By Neal Coolong on Nov 13 2013

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger again shoots down trade rumors, and says his relationship with offensive coordinator Todd Haley is "becoming a really good one."

The general idea is understandable enough.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger dusted off a recent trade rumor by stating his relationship with Todd Haley is a "great relationship." So good, in fact, "it's turning into a really good one."

Perhaps in Roethlisberger's world, "great" comes before "really good." The point being, according to Roethlisberger on this particular day and time, he and Haley are getting along fine.

He also pointed out his knowledge of the likeliness of receiving a contract extension this offseason would be news to him.

"I'm so ignorant when it comes to that stuff," he said on his weekly radio show. "I do what my agents tell me, (but) I'll have my input for things. My job is to go play football, and that's what my focus is and (what) I try to do."

It's ok to tease the star quarterback a little bit, and it's humorous to think he really has no idea where he sits with his contract. He's saying the right things as he prepares to face the Lions in Week 11 - Bee uniforms and all. It's worth a few cheap laughs, especially if the relationship he has with Haley is burgeoning all the way to "really, really decent status."
