Bill Cowher Reportedly Met With Redskins Owner Dan Snyder Twice

By Jack Phillips, Epoch Times | December 31, 2013

Bill Cowher, the ex-coach who led the Pittsburgh Steelers to a Super Bowl, hasn’t coached since 2006 but with every year, there’s rumors that he’ll come back.

Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post tweeted that Redskins owner “Dan Snyder has already met with Bill Cowher at least twice.”

And a Washington Times editorial said that Cowher would be a perfect fit for the ailing Washington Redskins, who recently fired coach Mike Shanahan.

“An established coach would bring a proven track record but, in some regard, arrive as damaged goods; a younger assistant doesn’t excite the fan base, but has the opportunity to grow with his team,” it reads. “Bill Cowher, former Pittsburgh Steelers coach: Out of coaching for seven seasons and now a television analyst, Cowher would be a hire players would immediately respect.”

Cowher is currently an analyst with CBS Sports and he’s expressed no interest in coaching in previous years.

I can't see why somebody would want to get back into coaching an NFL team after so long of being away. You hear Cowher and Gruden's names come up a lot. If I were in a position like that and a team came trying to get me back onto the field, I'd just start laughing.

Yeah, but he's only going to win with Shanahan's players.

Bill Cowher won't coach this season

Updated: January 4, 2014
ESPN.com news services

Former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher won't return to coaching next season.

In fact, Cowher is expected to remain out of coaching "for a few more years," a source close to Cowher tells ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

When the Washington Redskins did not let go of defensive coordinator Jim Haslett, who coached under Cowher with the Steelers from 1997-99, some league sources suspected it was with the hopes Washington could hire Cowher. But Cowher is not expected to coach Washington, Cleveland or any team this season.

Cowher, 56, spent 15 seasons as the Steelers coach. During his tenure, the Steelers won a Super Bowl, eight division titles and made 10 playoff appearances.

After resigning in January 2007, Cowher joined CBS Sports as a studio analyst.

who would be crazy enough to take a job in Washington?

An unstable, meddling owner and team of misfit toys. It has failure written all over it. The Browns job would be a much better one.

If I were Cowher, I'd want the Detroit job tbh.
