So then we would have won 6 with Ben at QB instead of TB?

I also was not around to watch Terry play but I can say that I would not take another QB playing today over BB. The main reason is that I don't think anyone else would have survived around our Oline over the past few years. He is tough as hell and a gamer. I say that he has. IMO.

I hear your point (don't necessarily agree or disagree)... but, if I may counter:

Bradshaw faced some crazy defenses: Doomsday Defense, The Purple People Eaters, and the Raiders defense (which was nearly as good as Pittsburgh's defense).

1976, an example of the kind of team the Steelers where and Terrys role on the team. Steelers start 1-4 and lose Terry for 6 games due to an injury. The Defense takes over the rest of the regular season 9 games. They recorded 5 shutouts, including 3 in a row, over those 9 games they gave up 2 touchdowns, (both in the same game). They gave up an average of 3.1 pts per game and won by an average of 22 points per game. The offense that year rushed for 2971 yards. Terry was 4-4 as a starter that year with 47% completion and 10 TDs and 9 Ints.

Terry was a 4 time winning SB QB, yet we never hear how the defense or the running game covered up a lot of his shortcomings. Yet Ben puts up much better numbers and all you read is how our defense carried him. I am 55 years old and lived through both and Terry only had a better deep ball and thats it as far as QB skills. Of course Marino had it on both of them and he has no Superbowls to his credit. The team has always been more important that the QB and the team TB had was without rival. That 1976 team lost to Oakland in the playoffs that year and BTW 8 of the 11 starters made the Pro Bowl.

Eh, it's kind of hard for anyone born later than the 60s really judge.

I was around for the Bradshaw era, crap, I was around for the Layne era, but that's another story....

Anyway, IMO you can't really compare the two based on stats alone, or their relative value to the team in different era with different surrounding talent, rules, written or other wise ( for instance, you establish the run to pass).

I will say this, If there is such a thing, you may want to take a look at Bradshaw's 4th quarter QB rating in his 4 Super Bowls.....When the game was on the line, he was at his best. That's no knock on Ben, who may not win any awards for technical merit, but has the game down pretty well.

Stats only tell part of the story and stats cannot account for chemistry.
I think the simplest way to look at this is that Bradshaw was the right QB at the right moment in time and Ben is the right QB now.

maybe, maybe not. you never will know though will you? it's all speculation

but the players nowadays are bigger and faster than in that era, big ben was probably bigger than some of the linemen of that time. imagine those guys trying to bring him down lol

I'm pretty sure that Joe could have got him down.

And bigger doesn't mean tougher.

Despite being endlessly hit and sacked throughout his career, there are only a couple injuries that have kept Ben off the field so far, among them:

a head-on car crash where he nearly died, followed by an emergency appendectomy

a broken collarbone, along with a broken rib and punctured lung that almost killed him

So yeah, I'd say he's pretty tough.
