Actually, Keisel played better than Hood when he was not injured this season . . . We had nobody to play 2nd CB better than the worst Ike this year . . . Clark probably should have not started, however with the loss of Foote and the use of Troy as a pseudo-LB we needed the experience at Safety (not that it helped this season). I think age has alot to do with our Def this season, but not for the reasons put out in this column. It was the injuries to our Def and slow recovery times caused by age that did our def in this season more than "old and slow". Yeah old and slow helped, but the lack of depth and injuries where at least as big a factor. If we can get a solid CB to replace Ike in FA, figure out our ILB and OLB situation I think our Def will be good enough to make a playoff run, not great, but good enough.

Here are the Steelers' rankings for the past few years (scoring defense):

2013: 14
2012: 6
2011: 1
2010: 1
2009: 12 (that season sucked in total)
2008: 1
2007: 1

2012 was not as bad as some want to believe. That season was destroyed by BB's injury. 2013 did indeed suck, but not 2012.

Steelers have whiffed on many fronts as the article states. Bloated contracts when we used to cut guys loose before they declined. Poor drafting leaving the cupboard bare. Suspect coaching. Over dependence on the Franchise QB approach to winning.

How many sacks did they get in '12? Forced Fumbles? Int's? Td's allowed?

Sacks? I don't know. FF? No clue. INTs? Not many.

TDs allowed? Less than 26 other teams.

I get your point: the defense was not getting turnovers (setting up the offense with good field position). But, conversely, the offense wasn't helping out the defense at all.

In the Browns game, the offense turned the ball over EIGHT times... and the defense still held the Browns to only 20 points. Likewise, in the Chargers game, the Pitt offense gave SD's offense the ball on SD's side of the fifty on something like five consecutive drives. And, in the second Cincy game, the Pitt defense allowed one FG drive (the offense gave up a pick-six and fumbled inside of their own red-zone for the other ten points).

Considering all of that, I'd say that the defense was not to blame for 2012. (BB being injured is more likely why they ended up 8-8.)

EDIT: 32 minus 5 other better defense, minus the Steelers, equals 26.

I think it was that 2nd Qtr of the SD game that was played almost entirely on the Steelers side of the field. The Steelers defense struggled greatly this year, and turnovers and QB pressure has been a problem the last year or two, but this article is trying to rewrite history and make it seem like the defense has been a major problem the last several years. Most teams in the NFL would have gladly traded for our defense up until this past season.

Yep.
In the SD game, Golden (the back up FS) was playing as the #2 CB. So, considering the depleted secondary, I'd say that allowing opponents to score the least amount of points in that season, is a helluva job.

Yep.
Aside from Seattle, Car, & SF, I can't name three other teams that wouldn't have swapped their 2012 defense with Pittsburgh's defense. 2013... that's an entirely different story.

So our lack of sacks were from dropping jones in coverage? Yeah that's it jones is a huge talent being wasted ok

Isn't Taylor BFF's with the owner ? It's called "internal politics"...
