So pretty much no matter what it's just bad writing.
After re-reading it I think you are correct

One of Cote's problems is that he had written this the day before

The United States in its great history has survived a Civil War, Great Depression, racial divide and terrorist attacks. Now comes America’s next big challenge: enduring four straight hours of Terry Bradshaw on Fox’s Super Bowl Sunday pregame show.

http://www.miamiherald.com/2014/02/0...h-a-smirk.html

Context is everything - his slam on Bradshaw on Saturday could support the inference he was thanking Mr. Bradshaw for dying on behalf of the viewing public

In any context it was ignorant

Pulling down the comment and not apologizing for it makes it look even worse

That x1000.

Based on the manner in which it was written, he's probably too dumb to see how it's 'offensive'.

So it's probably easiest to call the man pure ignant and move on.

I have endured Terry's country western album, daytime talk show, bare naked ass in failure to launch, and still enjoy his pregame shows. Mr coat is a douchebag

As I posted on Sunday, Terry's Dad passed away last week and he of course was with his family rather than at the Super Bowl this past Sunday.

In reading Ed.B. of the P-G this morning I came across this item

The most tasteless remark I came across about the Super Bowl was a column written by Greg Cote of the Miami Herald, who called it the worst Super Bowl ever. That’s OK, this written by him was not:

“The broadcast was ordinary. Terry Bradshaw missed it because his father died. Getting him out of this game was one more reason to thank Dad.”

http://sportsblogs.post-gazette.com/...s/201402040002

WTF For anyone who knows the pain of losing a parent, as I have, or does not have a toxic relationship with their parents, Cote's comment is incomprehensibly bitter.

This is just another example of sportswriters and other folks tossing insults online when they would never have the cojones to say it if the person to whom they were directing their bile was in the same room.

I am not big on sending e-mails to media types, but rather than hiding behind an anonymous comment on his blog I sent Cote an e-mail at gcote@herald.com to share my thoughts in the event he wants to respond.

What an asshole.
That guy is the literal definition of a douchebag.

Having lived in Miami, I escaped after 30 years, I can tell you that there are a lot down there who are just like Cote.
