I think we move McClendon to DE and keep Woods in at NT. I think our biggest downfall in our running game was the loss of Foote as he was a run stopping tackling machine. If we have Heyward, Woods and McClendon as out Down 3 and a solid ILB (Williams or a good Foote replacement) we will be fine.

Honestly I hope we address one of the multiple areas of weakness via free agency. NT. ILB. S. CB. Isn't Hightower on his way out on NE? Unsure but Lebeau loved him. Delmas would be nice if he can stay healthy. I'd love to see Verner come from Tennessee but no chance in hell that'll happen.

I'm not ready to give up on McClendon or Woods.
I saw enough from both to believe there's talent there.
Even though we may not have them correctly sorted out yet and playing at their best position., they both have "good motors" and play with an edge.

Also, I don't want to use pick #15 on a NT.
I would like a top flight CB who can handle a top flight WR.

McClendon gets blamed for the digression in our run defense, but I do agree that it was a combination of factors.

Losing Foote, was I think the final blow to our run defense. You can replace one or two starters in an offseason and not expect much dropoff. But to repalce Casey Hampton, and unexpectedly Larry Foote (with a rookie), and James Harrison-- this was entirely predictable.

I think Vince Williams will be better this next year, and Jarvis should be much better.

Big Steve has always been a bright spot on this team, but agree with other posters that he is just playing out of position.

James C Wexell ‏@jimwexell:

One note on Nix, he's lost 23 pounds since January. "I enjoy my weight. People wanted it down so I got it down." Said knee is fine.

NT Louis Nix met w Mike Tomlin ("He was a cool guy") last night.

Chris Hoke did very good when he had Foote behind him. McLendon had a rookie behind him and did very well for his FIRST year starting! Losing Foote hurt, especially in the run game. Still think we should go CB, or ILB with 15th pick.

If, then move McLendon to DE, start Woods NT first 6 games a la Hamp's rookie year.

He's trying to prove today he's a 3-down player. I'm Not sold yet, just commenting as he goes. Knee good. Lost weight. Smart.

Alameda Ta'amu couldn't move laterally. That's why he's gone.

Louis Nix sure can move laterally. Wow.

I think this is the year it's near impossible to pick what's going to happen. Off season development of Shamarko and Spence's health, in the off season workouts will dictate the draft. As will the FA this year. I think they are going to let many FA walk, but expect Keisel may not be one of them. And the Dline is not nearly as bad as some suggest, that includes Ziggy and McClendon, it was scheme and injuries - and those went hand in hand.

I can easily. See the Steelers going best on the board , as dictated by other teams drafting earlier in the draft. I think all told the Steelers will be content to go Secondary, linebacker, and dline even. I would not be surprised if a receiver was picked but expect that not to be a first round choice. Likely second. And finally, should one of the three OT slip to 15 (weirder things have happened), I could see the Steelers tempted at that point in time also.

It's just more difficult this year than other years IMO.
