As indicated by the text but not the full image of the tweets now being available, it appears that Elkington had a Richie Incognito moment and decided to pull down the tweets

Yep - when you go to his twitter site this message appears

Sorry, that page doesn’t exist!

One assessment of Michael Sam's disappointing combine

Missouri defensive end Michael Sam entered the combine as one of its biggest stories. Considering the relative lack of athleticism he demonstrated during workouts, however, some will characterize him as one of the week's biggest disappointments.

Sam acknowledged Monday that he was disappointed in his 25 1/2-inch vertical leap (nevermind his 4.91 40). We can understand why.

In 2004, Miami (Fla.) nose tackle Vince Wilfork's vertical was 26 inches at his pro day. Wilfork, the behemoth Pro Bowl lineman for the New England Patriots, was 6-1, 329 during the pre-draft measurements (safe to say he might be up a few pounds, or 10). Last February, eventual No. 1 overall pick Eric Fisher had a 28 1/2 vertical. A reminder -- he's 6-7, 302 and plays offensive tackle.

The vertical and broad jump were not impressive for Sam, nor were they as vital as position workouts. He was tight and stiff in the hips and ankles and kept his head down and chest up through linebacker drills.

The workout proved what Sam showed at the Senior Bowl last month -- that his niche to begin his NFL career will be on special teams and as backup depth who might eventually get time in nickel pass-rushing situations.

I will say that I went to the guy's Twitter and saw a later tweet in response to someone calling him out for the tweet. He said, "I'm for Sam I'm not for ESPN telling me he's gay."

There's two ways we can interpret that, but my gut reaction is that he disliked the idea of homosexuality having to be such a big deal, instead of letting the guy just play football.

That said, his deletion of his Twitter tells me the other interpretation might be more accurate.

My bet is his agent or the PGA Tour told him to shut the site down

IMO the handbag tweet outed him on there being more that upsets him about Sam than the ESPN coverage

And as is often the case, folks put stuff out there and forget there is no delete button once you tweet it - this guy is an all purpose bigot but this link shows this was not his first rodeo when it comes to snappy comments about gay people

A deeper look at his account reveals something of a fixation on the sexuality of others:

Or the Rams - or the Chiefs - or the Falcons

A Missouri state senator on Monday introduced legislation like Arizona’s that could provide cover for businesses to deny service to same-sex couples. In Georgia, two versions of a similar bill in the state House and Senate are moving quickly through the Legislature. In Kansas, a similar bill already passed Republican-led House earlier this month.

While those bills aren’t drawing the national attention of SB 1062, they all aim to accomplish similar goals — giving businesses the ability to refuse service to customers based on religious beliefs.

I guess this is progress - at least she did not use the N-word, although she apparently cannot remember Michael Sam's name

Paula Deen: I Know How 'That Black Football Player' Michael Sam Feels

"I feel like ‘embattled’ or ‘disgraced’ will always follow my name. It’s like that black football player who recently came out,” Deen told People Magazine in an interview hitting newsstands Friday ...“He said, ‘I just want to be known as a football player. I don’t want to be known as a gay football player.’ I know exactly what he’s saying.”
