Default My 14' Mock - Tell me what you think

Assuming we get a 3rd compensatory for Wallace

1st.- Justin Gilbert - CB - OK St.
2nd.- Allen Robinson - WR - Penn St.
3rd. - Terrence Brooks - FS - Florida
4th. - Josh Mauro - DE - Stanford
5th. - Matt Patchan - OT - Boston College
6th. - Ryan Carrethers - DT - Arkansas St.
7th. - De'Anthony Thomas - RB - Oregon

This is post combine, some of these guys may move up or down depending on how teams view their pro day results. I think this would help us fill some of our immediate needs as well as give us some depth at others positions we need. the top 2 picks could be immediate starters and the rest would get some good playing time on special teams as well as some situational plays from day 1

we would also need to compliment this draft with a few decent FA's as well nothing crazy but a few solid veterans, possibly a S and DT, or LB

If Gilbert is available he'd be a great 1st round pick,Robinson's stock dropped after a mediocre combine performance, so he may even drop to the 3rd round, I also like that you got Brooks in the 3rd, but with his good combine performance he should be picked in the early-mid 3rd round... the Steelers don't have a 3rd round draft pick this year, they will however have a 3rd round compensatory pick because of Mike Wallace's departure, with that being said the comp pick will be closer to a 4th round pick than a 3rd, unless he somehow drops.

I'd take Mike Evans (WR) in the 1st, and Kyle Fuller (CB) in the 2nd. Then our mocks would look very similar. I like Brooks, Carrethers and Mauro.

I like this, I just don't think Gilbert will fall. I think Dennard would still be great there though.

This is my thought process now, more what I would like but also who I think will be available:

1. Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M
-Big Ben's tall wide receiver. A good prospect.

2. Austin Sefereian-Jenkins, TE, Washington
-Falls because of surgery putting him out roughly 8 weeks. Steelers scoop him up.

3. Jaylen Watkins, CB, Florida
-Older brother of Sammy Watkins turned in a nice combine and has good size

4. Tre Boston, FS, North Carolina
-Rangy, true free safety that can take over and possibly contribute year one.

5. Justin Ellis, NT, Louisiana Tech
-Big body nose tackle to develop and possibly take over for McClendon and kick him out to DE

6. Prince Shembo, OLB, Notre Dame
-Good contributor to develop for OLB depth

7.Deanthony Thomas, RB, Oregon
-Can be used as KR/PR. Was dynamic at Oregon and falls because of surprisingly slow 40 and undersized.

Those first two picks are my dream draft

Another Thought:

-Big Ben's tall wide receiver. A good prospect.

2. Austin Sefereian-Jenkins, TE, Washington
-Falls because of surgery putting him out roughly 8 weeks. Steelers scoop him up.
Donít believe Pitt will take 2 offensive players at #1 and #2. Would rather see a safety here, Deone Buchanan, Pryor or even another CB.

3. Jaylen Watkins, CB, Florida
-Older brother of Sammy Watkins turned in a nice combine and has good size

4. Tre Boston, FS, North Carolina
-Rangy, true free safety that can take over and possibly contribute year one.
Get a very good TE here-Lynch from Georgia.

5. Justin Ellis, NT, Louisiana Tech
-Big body nose tackle to develop and possibly take over for McClendon and kick him out to DE

6. Prince Shembo, OLB, Notre Dame
-Good contributor to develop for OLB depth

7.Deanthony Thomas, RB, Oregon
-Can be used as KR/PR. Was dynamic at Oregon and falls because of surprisingly slow 40 and undersized.

I just don't think the Steelers will pass on ASF in the second, just because they don't want to take two offensive players with their first two picks. I think they will go as per usual with needs weighed vs bpa. And the value, I believe, exceeds any need at that point.

Any draft that goes early and often on the secondary is a good one. However, I don't know how I feel about Robinson. I get that he's a Boldin type, but how many of those types of players are successful compared to guys that have better speed or route running ability. Ben's not the throw it up and let the WR make the play that Flacco is either. Also, given that De'Anthony Thomas is so sought after by Steelers fans late, that won't happen.

just a thought, but maybe the only reason Ben isn't a "throw it up and let the WR make a play" kind of guy is because he's never had a real big grab the ball kind of receiver like a Boldin.

My own thoughts on that are if you think a Boldin type receiver solves our problems, just sign Boldin.

Myself, I think our O is better than people think and most of our need is on D. We got a lead and failed to hold it several times last year. D still wins championships and we have fallen way behind the elite D teams (like Seattle) in this league. We need speed on D and a lot of it.
