One is a huge gamble, and for $4 million more, one is a lock to improve your team.

Make sense?

IKE
Yep. He'll return, at a reduced rate... as the #2 CB. (That transition, to #2, started in November.)
Yes. Yes. Yes.

And the Bills reportedly won't tag or resign him before FA. So they will have their shot.

He fixes a lot of problems. A new starting safety, and someone on defense capable of creating a freaking turnover. Did some of us forget what those look like?

A tandem of TP43 would strike fear into the hearts of opposing QBs, and be able to handle a duo of Jarvis and Woodley/whoever at OLB. I'd even be okay with losing Ike if it means giving the secondary such a shot in the arm.

Not necessarily. Brown and Timmons will clear another $8 million through restructures. Then there's the Woodley elephant, and the fact that someone team can just as well steal Worilds away.

But we have say in matching that offer. We can still map out any longterm deal we could have in place for Worlids once we decide on Woodley, rework guys like Troy and Ike and hell..maybe even extend Roethlisberger. This will all play in signing Worlids to a longterm deal IMO.

You're absolutely right. And in fact, I think there's no way Ike plays for $7 million this year. But really, we don't know much more than we did before. We knew they'd make an effort for Worilds. It's the rest of the league that will determine how much, if any, room needs to be made.

Ike Taylor acknowledges his future is murky

Taylor, who will be 34 in May, admitted on his weekly TribLive Radio Show Tuesday that he isn’t sure he will be back for his 12th year.

“Hopefully I am back as a Steeler in 2014,” Taylor said. “Time will tell. We will see. When you get around 33-34, they always try to find a reason not to pay you. They always … and it has been going for years.”...

“I don’t know. I am in a situation where you can say my cap is high for a veteran guy but hey, I am still a top veteran guy, I feel,” Taylor said. “You can say my play declined but I am asking where?

WTF

According to Pro Football Focus, Taylor allowed the second most catches in the NFL with 71. He gave up 30 in 2012 albeit in four fewer games.

Taylor, who spent the majority of his career following around the opposition’s top receiver, was also relegated to the one side of the defense over the final months of the season.

Ike Taylor might be safe right now because the team just made quite a few cuts and none of them were Ike Taylor. Even though I'd be sad to see him go, he needs to get cut or restructure his contract.
