Howdy Steelers Fans,
I was just wondering a couple of things 1. Who are you playing in the pre-season and how important is a win in these games to the fans? 2. What sort of philosophy do the Steelers have in pre-season games - do they give plenty of time to 2nd/3rd stringers and do they mix the teams up or always play the reserves together? I ask this because over at the Pats we seem to not put a great deal of focus into winning in the pre-season. I feel a little sorry for our back up QB Rohan Davey - he doesnt get many reps - and when he does its always wth 3rd string receivers and O-line. I personally think it would be better to give him a shot with the 1st team and see how he goes - after all if Brady gets injured - these are the guys he has to play with. Your thoughts would be appreciated ITS PIG-SKIN BABY! NM |

Monday, Aug. 15 EAGLES
Saturday, Aug. 20 DOLPHINS Friday, Aug. 26 @ Redskins Thursday, Sept. 1 @ Panthers I think they are important in the way to see how your team is doing and maybe get a preview of the younger guys. I am more interested in seeing how the players are doing then winning the preseason games. Of course I don't mind the win, but my main focus of the preseason is how the players are looking going into the season. Good topic by the way. |

I don't think teams who we play is as important as the people we play in those games. The Eagles and Skins are usually in the mix cause of location to camps so we are pretty familar with them. We also do a good job of letting the backups-backups get lots of action to make some good roster decisions You'll notice that we rarely cut a veteran who goes on to be outstanding on another team so we maximize most players skills while we have them at the same time keeping enough young guys to remain competitive year in year out. I don't think we need to shorten the preseason or whatever, only charge less for tickets as the games are not always fought out 100% in the fourth.

I'd rather go 0-4 in preseason and come out healthy, then win them all have a bunch of nagging injuries going into the season.
Cowher usually plays his first string players about 1 quarter in the first game... nearly the entire first half in the second game... the first half and many times the first series in the 3rd game, and then the 4th game, its basically get em in there for a series and get em out. |
