^ This, some people actually learn from their mistakes, Woodley's contract was a mistake, so lets not make it again by signing Worilds to a huge contract before we know what we have. I hope he plays lights out this next season, I hope he demands top dollar. If after that we can not sign him, so be it, but if that is the case, this next season we will be a contender and I am ok with that.

I have to strongly disagree. Woodley earned every penny of his contract when he signed it. It's only a mistake with hindsight. He didn't have the lapses in development, or even the injury history that Worilds does.

Report: Jason Worilds, Steelers making no progress

When linebacker Jason Worilds quickly signed the Pittsburgh Steelers' transition tag in early March, there was hope from both sides that a sensible long-term arrangement could be worked out.

Nearly three months later, the tea leaves suggest Worilds will play out the 2014 season without the security of a long-term contract.

There have been no productive talks between Worild's camp and the Steelers, reports Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The Rooney family has traditionally been reluctant to overpay for their own impending free agents. After getting a poor return on their long-term commitment to LaMarr Woodley, they may be extra hesitant to do the same with another edge rusher ready to cash in.

Worilds had one of the great contract-year pushes of recent memory, terrorizing offensive linemen with seven sacks and 20 quarterback hits in the final eight games of 2013.

If he can stretch that level of play over 16 games this season, it will work out well for both player and team.

I'd like to see him re-signed but I hope we dont overpay him if so. Maybe we let him play out his "transition tag" this year and hope that Howard Jones shows something but thats probably a reach but he has some serious raw upside.

I think it's a good move on the Steelers part only because Worlid's is still unproven. One late year push in the lineup in a contract make or break situation to perform is a start, not a finalization. The Steelers are simply waiting it out and putting a close eye on JW and his production to see how he handles one full years worth of anchoring down the left side of the linebacking core. If he proves he wasn't a half-year wonder, we'll offer the longterm contract next off-season.

They have four months to get a deal done.

No rush.

This is a very smart play by the Steelers. The guy was hurt and under performing for 3 1/2 years. He has a helluva of a 8 game stretch, all because we switch the side he's playing on, and we owe him top dollar?? No way. Let the guy play it out this year and see how he looks and holds up over a 16 game stretch. He needs to truly earn this contract. The only reason we are stressing this is because we have no one else behind him pushing for playing time. He didn't push LWood or Harrison AND we have drafted OLB poorly. I hope this works out for him because if it does that means it works out for the Steelers.
