Steelers long-snapper Greg Warren has meniscus tear in knee

August 14, 2014
By Gerry Dulac / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Coach Mike Tomlin said today that long-snapper Greg Warren has a meniscus tear in his knee and is expected to miss four weeks, meaning he might not be ready for the start of the regular season.

Warren has not missed a regular-season game since Dec. 21, 2009, a span of 64 consecutive games. He was injured during Wednesday’s practice scrimmage against the Buffalo Bills.

In his absence, tight end Bryce Davis will handle the long-snapping duties Saturday night against the Buffalo Bills, though Tomlin did not discount the possibility of signing another long-snapper to the training-camp roster.

Also, Tomlin said rookie inside linebacker Ryan Shazier (knee bruise) and outside linebacker Jarvis Jones (groin) are questionable for the second preseason game against the Bills at Heinz Field.

Alex Kozora @alex_Kozora ·

Like the signing of Luke Ingram. More competent than Davis, don't think he'll count as vested veteran. Can be cut when Warren is healthy.

he won't count as a vested veteran because he has less than 4 years of NFL service.

I have always thought it's quietly admirable how long Greg Warren has been the long snapper here. I cannot recall a bad snap from him, at least not a glaring one. I DO remember when he got hurt back in 2008 against the Giants and Silverback snapped one out of the end zone in his stead. Anyone else remember that?

I do. If the Steelers would bring Harrison back he could not only mentor the young linebackers but he could handle the LS duties as well until Warren returns.
