Who did Philly cut him for?..... Todd Pinkston, Freddie Mitchell, Greg Lewis, Billy McMullen, or Carlos Perez.

Sorry for going off topic..... Where was I?
Oh yeah, here is a bit from the Post on Nate Washington.Washington impressive Wide receiver Nate Washington probably practices in front of more fans at St. Vincent College than when he played at Division II Tiffin College, near Toledo, Ohio. And he never had played in front of a crowd as large as the 57,276 who watched the preseason victory Monday night against the Eagles. The crowd size, though, did not intimidate Washington, a rookie free agent. He led the Steelers with four catches for 76 yards, including a 33-yarder, and continued to impress the coaching staff. "I was just trying to beat it in my head this was no different than college," Washington said. "I knew it wasn't, but I was just trying to beat it in my head, regardless of it all, that I still had to step on some grass, between four lines and play some football. At the end of the day, I was just trying to make my mind think it was just the same as any other game I played." Washington did what he does best -- catch the ball. He set eight school records at Tiffin, a school known for soccer, including career receptions (212), yards (4,214) and touchdowns (47). He once caught 13 passes for 299 yards in one game. Steelers scout Phil Kreidler watched several of Washington's games on film and never saw him a drop a pass. Not bad for a player who never received any Division I offers while playing wide receiver and defensive back in high school in Toledo. "Hard work pays off," said Washington, who is 6-1, 195 pounds. "I definitely developed later. I worked hard every day. I studied a lot of film -- that's what I do, I love watching film, that's my thing -- and I watched the guys who have been down the road that I'm trying to get down." Washington could make the team as a possible fifth receiver, but he is more than likely destined to be a practice-squad player. Nonetheless, he decided to sign with the Steelers because he appreciated the way he was treated by the organization. "I really came here because I felt the best love here," Washington said. "These are genuine people in this area, and I like Pittsburgh a lot. They treated me good when I was here on a visit and when I came here in minicamp they treated me real well. I was excited about coming here."

Actually, when Morey was cut, 14 other Eagles were cut the same day. So to say he was cut so they could keep Pinkston, Mitchell, Lewis, McMullen, or Perez is a reach. Another quote from the article that announced he was cut was: "Morey was a mild surprise, earning MVP honors while finishing second on the Eagles with 28 special-teams tackles. He played all 16 games and returned seven kicks for a 13.3-yard average." I just disagree with you that a 6th receiver spot is more valuable than a special teams ace. It would be great if that guy could perform both jobs, but if I had to choose a guy that MIGHT play a down or two in a game or a guy that will get a couple tackles on special teams.....I'd take the later.

You can't honestly beleive that there is noone else on our team that can play special teams, and run down the feild and tackle someone. Teams find new guys to do that every year..... much like the Eagles did. It is not necessary to have 6 specialists on your 53 man roster.

More good Nate Washington news.....
Nate Washington, the pride of Tiffin University, continues to be the Cinderella story of training camp. Thursday when addressing the intense competition at wide receiver, Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher singled out Washington, an undrafted free agent out of Tiffin, Ohio. The Steelers will likely keep six wide receivers. Four of them already have job security - Hines Ward, Antwaan Randle El, Cedrick Wilson and rookie Fred Gibson, a fourth-round draft pick. That means eight others are fighting for two roster spots. "Nate Washington, right now, has probably been the one guy who's been the most consistent player," Cowher said. "Lee Mays and Walter Young have missed some practice time (due to injuries), so if there's one player who has seized his opportunity, it's been Nate Washington."

I couldn't be more pleased with that. The things I am hearing from Nate's friend makes this guy an ideal guy to keep around. He tells me he has a great head on his shoulders, and great work ethics-just what the Steelers like!

Don't get me wrong guys, I like Nate Washington, from the little that I / we know of him, he is a good ball player, my arguements were that Morey is worth keeping around for the other things he can do. I'd love for Washington AND Cobb to make the team, but that I just don't see happening. I just hope we can keep both Washington and Cobb both either on the roster or practice squad.
