Default Davis' hit ruled legal by league officials

Davis' hit ruled legal by league officials

Defensive end Chauncey Davis will not be fined for the shoulder-to-helmet hit that knocked Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger out of last week's 41-38 Falcons victory, NFL spokesman Randall Liu said.

No penalty was assessed on the play, on which Roethlisberger threw a pass and was drilled by Davis, defensive end Patrick Kerney and linebacker Michael Boley. Still photos and replays showed Davis delivering the hit that appeared to do the most damage. Roethlisberger laid motionless on the field for several minutes before being escorted to the sideline and later taken to the locker room.

Roethlisberger said this week he heard a Falcons player taunt him on the play about trying to hit him in his face that was surgically repaired after a motorcycle accident this summer. Davis, Kerney and Boley all denied saying anything or hearing any Falcons player say anything.
