Steelers notebook Dec 23 2006
By Mike Prisuta
Saturday, December 23, 2006
? Strong safety Troy Polamalu (knee) practiced again Friday but deferred any definitive word on whether he'd start or play Sunday against Baltimore to head coach Bill Cowher. "I've been pretty comfortable," Polamalu said after yesterday's workout. He was upgraded from questionable to probable on Thursday. Polamalu has missed three consecutive games.
? Wide receiver Santonio Holmes accepted the Joe Greene Great Performance Award as the Steelers' rookie of the year wearing an Ohio State warm-up suit from last year's Fiesta Bowl. He was asked if he has any such items in Steelers colors. That's a question that has been asked of Holmes repeatedly by Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. "Every time Ben sees me, he's like, 'Do you have any other sweat suits besides scarlet and gray sweat suits?' " Holmes said. "I tell him, 'no, that's the only thing in my closet.' "
? For the Steelers, offensive tackle Max Starks (knee), safety Ryan Clark (groin) and safety Andre Lott (ankle) are out; and Polamalu, safety Tyrone Carter (concussion), center Jeff Hartings (knee), linebacker Clint Kriewaldt (neck), safety Mike Logan (hamstring) and cornerback Bryant McFadden (shoulder) are probable.
Starks, Clark, Polamalu, Hartings and McFadden are starters.
For the Ravens, offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden (toe) was downgraded yesterday from questionable to doubtful. Upgraded from questionable to probable were wide receiver Mark Clayton (chest), center Mike Flynn (thigh), wide receiver Derrick Mason (thigh), cornerback Samari Rolle (neck), safety Gerome Sapp (thigh). Tight ends Todd Heap (thigh) and Daniel Wilcox (knee/back) remain questionable. Clayton, Flynn, Heap, Mason, Ogden and Rolle are starters.
? Wide receiver Hines Ward needs one 100-yard receiving game to move into sole possession of second place on the team's all-time list (Louis Lipps also has 16), 125 receiving yards for 8,000 in his career, four rushing yards to become the Steelers' all-time leader at the position (at 389 career), 155 receiving yards to reach the 1,000-yard plateau this season and nine catches to surpass last year's total of 69.
2 - Number of consecutive times the Ravens have beaten the Steelers
4 - Number of interceptions for Ravens safety Dawan Landry, the most in the NFL for a rookie in 2006
5 - Number of consecutive games the Ravens have lost at Heinz Field
8 - Number of times the Ravens have led by 14 points in a game this season (they're 8-0 in such games)
146 - Number of consecutive passes Ravens quarterback Steve McNair has thrown without being intercepted
172 - Total net yards gained by the Steelers in their 27-0 loss Nov. 26 in Baltimore

I'm keeping my fingers (and toes) crossed that both Troy and Hartings will be on that field tomrorow.
Congrats to Santo on his Steelers Rookie of the Year Award!
5 - Number of consecutive games the Ravens have lost at Heinz Field - tomorrow that 5 will become a 6.
