Pirates entertaining offers for Jack Wilson

All Im saying is we have a shortstop who is easily in the top 3rd..if not the top 20% of shortstops in baseball...and this is the guy we wanna trade????

Here is my take I think Jack Wilson is tradeable. But I don't want to trade him just to trade him. The guy plays sick defense and has developed into a better hitter then most thought he would.

About the crap free agents. The thing is does any really good free agents want to play for the Pirates since they are a laughing stock every year.

At this point if the right trade was proposed to the Pirates for Jack Wilson. I would have no problem with it.

Exactly. You can get a good veteran pitcher or two without trading away guys like Jack Wilson. It's called spending a little bit more than the freaking bare minimum just so you can make a few extra bucks, something that ownership STILL hasn't figured out to this day. Talent always goes where the money is, and if management opens up their wallets more, they would come - trust me on that. Yes, I want to win. But I don't want to mortgage the future or trade away talented players either, especially young players like Jack who is just entering the prime of his career.

From far away, where Pirates games are only box scores and an occasional XM broadcast on the way home from work, I don't get to see the popularity, I only get to see what the numbers are. I see a decent guy who looks good because everyone else is so bad. I see Gene Alley, a popular player who was OK.

Would you be upset if the Bucs traded FOR Jack Wilson? Or would everyone be screaming what the heck, we need more than a guy who hits .270 with 15 home runs... hey wait, that's Joe Randa, isn't it? (Actually for his career Wilson is averaging 8 hrs and .263 per 162 games.)

We have a decent enough offense. The problems with the Bucs are pitching and defensive discipline. If we could get some young guys who can pitch in the majors at the end of this year or the beginning of next, then we should move Wilson. He's part of what we have the most of.

The flip side is that the only top shortstop prospect in the Bucs farm system is error prone Javier Guzman at AA Altoona (33 errors in 137 games in '05); the guys at AAA Indy are hitting like .213 and .230 respectively. So we would need a pitching prospect and an infield prospect. But the Bucs won World Series with Ducky Schofield, Jackie Hernandez, and Tim Foli at ss.

Who do I trade Wilson for? Pitching. This team has no pitching. We could have probably 10-15 more wins this season if we had a decent bullpen. Instead we have Matt freaking Capps and Roberto Henandez back there giving away game after game.

How could they trade him, he had one bad season he is going to regroup. he is the leader on this team. WE NEED HIM!!!
