Default Falcons Owner says Vick is a 'very fine person'

Looks like Arthur Black is another guy who values dollar signs over integrity.

Even though, Mike has been given a free pass on this episode, I think it will be lodged firmly in the memory of Falcons fans.

My guess is that when things start going wrong for Atlanta at the critical point of the season, and Vick disappears they will probably turn on him.

The highlighted paragraph shows what happens when you try and talk and your subconscious 'morals' hijack the deal.

Quote:
ATLANTA -- Arthur Blank is looking for new revenue -- and possibly a new stadium -- for the Atlanta Falcons.

Not a new starting quarterback.

February marks the five-year anniversary of Blank's purchase of the team.

"There have been a lot of ups and downs along the way, but we've had a lot of fun," Blank told the Atlanta Press Club.

Blank fired coach Jim Mora after the Falcons failed to make the playoffs for the second straight season and hired Bobby Petrino as the new coach. But the biggest offseason news was quarterback Michael Vick's water bottle encounter with Miami airport security last month.

Vick was cleared of allegations the water bottle he attempted to take through the airport was laced with marijuana. Though Miami police moved quickly in announcing the results of lab tests, several days of public suspicion did not help Vick's public standing.

Vick has not been available for interviews and the Falcons have been mostly quiet on the matter after an initial public reprimand from general manager Rich McKay, who said the quarterback "let a lot of people down."

Blank stood up for Vick on Thursday.

"He is our quarterback," Blank said in an interview session following his speech. "We're proud of Michael. He's obviously a great player and he's a very fine person. The incident in Miami was unfortunate, but as we found out it was a water bottle. It might have been a trick water bottle, but it was a water bottle and it was filled with water and that's what it was filled with."

Blank said Vick is "enthused and excited about operating under new coaching and a new scheme."

The Patriots didn't bother with swagger to start this NFL season; they went straight to defiant. Either you're one of them or you're about to get crushed.

Yep, Jim Mora Sr. was right - this guy is a coach killer. Best of luck to Petrino, he's gonna need it.

There was a theory that, bu giving Mike Vick more control of the offense, that the Falcons management are actually giving him more rope to hang himself with.

Its hard to believe that Vick had about as much control of the offense as your average player on Madden - a couple of audibles and thats it.

The Matt Schaub scenario is one of most interesting, in terms of NFL back-ups, his stock keeps rising and rising without him actually having to do much.

Its a wonder Oakland dont make a play for him and then spend their high 1st rounder on another offensive weapon, or even a LT.

I have noticed that and on the few occasions I have seen Schaub play, he did play very well. Vick is the far better athlete of the two, but Schaub is a far better QB, IMHO.

But we all know what "fine" stands for:

F'd up
Insecure
Neurotic
Emotional
