Ken had the lung aspiration yesterday afternoon and they removed a LITRE of fluid from his lungs - that is one helluva lot of fluid. Had they not done this procedure, he would have "drowned". The swelling in his feet and ankles has gone down some and he is breathing somewhat better. The docs are concerned, however, because he has a bluish-purplish tinge to his left foot and they are going to run a few tests today to try to figure out why. He called me last night shortly after midnight and was short of breath and in tears - this man rarely cries. He was having these feelings of impending doom that is common after a major surgery and all of the subsequent complications he's had. I told him to sit on the edge of his bed and take some deep breaths and I called his nurse who immediately went in to check on him. She said she was going to have the house doc come up to check him and also get a chest x-ray to see if anything was going on, such as a pnemothorax (collapsed lung), etc. When I talked to Ken a little while ago, he seemed to be a little more relaxed after getting a few hours of sleep, so I'll see what is going on when I get there a little later on.

Thank you all for your continued prayers.

Ken was discharged on Saturday late afternoon. The docs felt he could recuperate much better out of the hospital setting. He had a rough day yesterday and the swelling in his ankles was severe. The home care nurse came yesterday and recommended several things to him that could really help him begin to recover. He broke down yesterday afternoon because he is so frustrated at being in this situation, but I told him he needs to take baby steps and one day at a time. Last night was the first night since all of this began that he slept well, but the Tylenol w/codeine helped in that regard - LOL! The swelling in his ankles and feet was almost gone this morning, as I had him sleep with his legs elevated above heart level. He will begin cardiac rehab in the next week or so which will help him regain his strength.

I can't thank all of you enough for your support, thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. I believe the power of God's love and His healing hands through all of you made all of the difference! I know it sure helped me to get through everything - you're all the best!

Glad to know that Ken is resting more comfortably. Hopefully he can begin his healing process now. God's blessings to both of you as you work thru this next phase. You'll continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks, NV.

I haven't updated this thread for a while so here goes. Ken was discharged from the hospital on March 10th and has been recovering here. He has good days and a couple of bad days here and there, but all in all, he's coming along just fine. He started cardiac rehab last Monday and will go 3x per week for 8 weeks. To look at him, you wouldn't really know that he has been through so much, other than some minor weight loss. He tends to overdo it at times and suffers the consequences of trying to do too much too soon (severe fatigue). He still has a ways to go, but like I keep telling him....one day at a time.

Thank you all one more time for all of the prayers - I really believe God heard you all and answered them!
