MySpace: Why are people so naive?

I have my page set to private as well, that fixes everything. With your page set to private only friends can view your stuff, no spam or fake accounts all over your page and you control who is on your friends list so everything is controled.

The problem with facebook is no one uses it, With a few exceptions amongst friends who request to each other...

Another thing is, people who use the site in the right way don't use it to find friends online they use it for people who as said before moved away or are busy etc...

No matter what your view on the site, loving it or hating it is wrong because you are only loving or hating how you use it. I't all comes down to the user. Myspace can be the best thing in the world or the worst, it just depends on if you use it in a mature way or not.

I don't have a MySpace account and don't want one. I have enough "real life" friends and acquaintances that I don't need an online tree house.

I primarily use Myspace to keep up with friends, especially in the summer.

You right about that. I have mine set to private where friends only can view it. They have 2 different privates where anyone under 18 can view it. I use the one for friends only.

Doesn't the telephone work just as well? Hey - to each their own, but I say no to Myspace and let my fingers do the walking.

yeah well, not everyone can get to the phone. The Phones work out, but it's also a matter of making sure you have the correct number.

I don't know, I think my daughter is allergic to the house phone. I asked her a few months ago to order pizza and her excuse for not doing it, "The internet was out." I said get the phone book...she got this puzzled look on her face.

It's funny, talking to my mom recently, she said she was so glad that the Internet became popular after I was out of the house...otherwise, it would be a whole other thing to worry about.

I went through HS right before cell phones and Internet. Some of my friends had pagers (remember those?) and would use pay phones. We had a PC but the only internet was slow modem access to bulliten boards.

Now, every kid has a cel phone!

I remember trying to get my sister off the phone during one of her marathon conversations with her friends, just to call a buddy to get a time to pick him up. Ah, how things have changed in a few short years.

Another thing I find weird is thinking back to the days when you would speak to someone on your landline and agree to meet them at a certain time - then you'd basically be at the mercy of something going wrong for them on the way - they'd have no way to contact you - leaving you stood round like a lemon.

Mobile phones are absolutely indispensible nowadays.

That is one big annoyance I have today. 10 and 12 year old kids with cell phones. I got my first one at 16 but only because I was traveling back and forth to work after school and late at night (Working good ol McDonalds, God I hated that place). But whats the point. Kids are in school and they use them. My buddy is a 7th grade teacher and he had to confiscate a few of them this year because of text messaging. Its nuts!

I don't have a myspace page either. But think parents need to monitor all computer usage, same goes for IM messaging, and chat rooms.
