Default Take The Quiz

some good offseason trivia courtesy of pat kirwan
answers here: http://nfl.com/news/story/10222838

(June 12, 2007) -- Every year in June, I give a series of final exams so you can test your knowledge of the previous season. The test is designed to remind you of a few of the performers who played better or worse than you might remember. The second test will feature team performances. Take the test in five minutes and of course no cheating!

TRUE/FALSE ... that means you have a 50/50 chance, which always helps the guessers.

1.) Jon Kitna threw more touchdown passes last season than any of the following quarterbacks: Brett Favre, Ben Roethlisberger, Chad Pennington.

2.) Marc Bulger threw fewer interceptions in 2006 than any of the following signal-callers: Peyton Manning, Drew Brees or Eli Manning.

Vince Young had a magical rookie season, but did he manage more TDs than interceptions?
3.) Matt Leinart and Vince Young both threw more touchdowns than interceptions in their first seasons.

4.) J.P. Losman threw fewer touchdowns than any of the following players: Chad Pennington, Matt Hasselbeck or Steve McNair.

5.) Maurice Jones-Drew rushed for more touchdowns than Edgerrin James and Thomas Jones combined.

6.) Steven Jackson was fourth in the NFL in rushing yards behind LaDainian Tomlinson, Larry Johnson and Frank Gore.

7.) 23 NFL running backs rushed for over 1,000 yards last year, and that group included Willis McGahee and Shaun Alexander.

8.) Larry Fitzgerald caught more passes than any of these receivers: Anquan Boldin, Isaac Bruce or Tony Gonzalez.

9.) Chad Johnson had more receptions than any of these receivers: Laveranues Coles, Donald Driver or Mike Furry.

10.) The Ravens had four defenders with more sacks than the top New England Patriot.

11.) The best pair of wide receivers (by number of receptions) in the NFL last year was the Colts' Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne with 181 grabs. The second-best tandem belonged to:
a.) Cincinnati
b.) Detroit
c.) Saint Louis

12.) The best sack tandem belonged to the Chargers with Shawne Merriman and Shaun Phillips combining for 28?. The second-best tandem belonged to:
a.) Oakland
b.) Baltimore
c.) Arizona.

13.) Who led the NFL in tackles last year?
a.) Zach Thomas
b.) DeMeco Ryans
c.) Lance Briggs
d.) Brian Urlacher

14.) The top safety in the NFL when it came to tackles was:
a.) Troy Polamalu
b.) Ed Reed
c.) Roy Williams
d.) Chris Hope

15.) Which one of these players had the most interceptions last year?
a.) Chris McAllister
b.) Walt Harris
c.) Lito Sheppard
d.) Pacman Jones.
i'll give up 1 answer though. for all those who were glad that we got rid of chris hope because he "couldnt tackle", you were clearly wrong. titans got their moneys worth. he was easilly our most underrated player on the sb team. (i missed 4, all multiple choice)

part 2 is more difficult with fewer suprising answers.

(June 14, 2007) -- There are myths and truths about team goals and their relationship to success in the NFL. We all know the clich?s coaches use at every press conference: 'Defense wins championships'; 'You gotta win the turnover battle'; 'Time of possession is critical'; 'You must establish the run'; and 'You have to win on third down'.

Well, here's the team section of the 2006 final exam and it's time to see which ones are true and which ones are myths.

The answer key is at the bottom, but don't check it until you've completed the test.

1.) The Indianapolis Colts were the best third-down offense in the NFL, converting 56.1 percent of the time. Which team was the second best?
a.) New Orleans
b.) Dallas
c.) New England
d.) Philadelphia

2.) The least-penalized team in the NFL had just 67 flags against them -- that was 56 less than the worst team in the league. By the way, the AFC had the top five least-penalized teams last season. Which team was No. 1?
a.) N.Y. Jets
b.) Denver
c.) Cleveland
d.) New England

3.) Which team controlled the clock the best last year and won the time-of-possession battle?
a.) New Orleans
b.) New England
c.) Baltimore
d.) Indianapolis

4.) The two Super Bowl teams were ranked 15th (Chicago) and 18th (Indianapolis) in rushing during the regular season. But which team led the NFL with 183.7 yards on the ground per game?
a.) San Diego
b.) Washington
c.) Jacksonville
d.) Atlanta

5.) Yards per pass attempt on offense is a category that is critical to winning, but isn't talked about as much as other categories. But the top four teams in this section combined for a 46-18 record. Which team was the best with an average of 6.2 yards per attempt?
a.) Philadelphia
b.) Indianapolis
c.) New Orleans
d.) San Diego

6.) Baltimore led the NFL in the turnover battle with a plus-17 score. Which team was second?
a.) San Diego
b.) Chicago
c.) New England
d.) St. Louis

7.) Which team defense gave up the fewest points, the fewest yards and won the third-down battle the most?
a.) Oakland
b.) Baltimore
c.) Chicago
d.) Green Bay

8.) Which team gave up the most points per game with an average of 25.8?
a.) Detroit
b.) Tennessee
c.) Arizona
d.) San Francisco

9.) Which team was No. 1 in total yards per game on offense?
a.) New Orleans
b.) Philadelphia
c.) Indianapolis
d.) San Diego

10.) Preventing quarterback sacks is a very important statistic in determining why teams win games. The Colts only gave up 15 sacks all year and Peyton Manning's decision-making is a big part of that impressive number. Which team was second in the NFL in protecting the QB from the sack?
a.) Philadelphia
b.) Baltimore
c.) Green Bay
d.) New England

11.) We know the Raiders were awful in pass protection, with their quarterback getting sacked 72 times. Which team was the second worst in the sack department?
a.) Seattle
b.) Detroit
c.) Cleveland
d.) Buffalo

12.) 'Moving the Chains' on offense is the only way to keep a drive alive. Which team was the worst, converting just 31.1 percent of third downs?
a.) Oakland
b.) Tennessee
c.) Minnesota
d.) Carolina
