Default Steelers' Haynes practices for first time

Steelers' Haynes practices for first time
By Mike Prisuta
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Saturday, July 28, 2007

Running back Verron Haynes (knee) and linebacker Derek Rehage (thumb) practiced for the first time during training camp on Friday night.

? Wide receiver Santonio Holmes (non-football related surgery) and linebacker Lawrence Timmons (groin) did not practice this morning or tonight.

? NFL officials Terry McAulay (referee), Jim Mello (head linesman) and Mike Banks (side judge) met with the Steelers Friday and presented an 11-minute video on rules changes and points of emphasis for 2007. Spiking the ball in the field of play will be penalized 5 yards, unless a player hasn't been ruled downed by contact, in which case either an illegal forward pass (spiking forward) or a fumble (spiking backward) will result. There is no longer a foul for unintentional touching of a forward pass by an ineligible receiver (previously a 5-yard penalty). The penalty for an illegal block below the waist by a defensive player on an eligible receiver beyond the line of scrimmage and when the quarterback is in the pocket has been increased from 5 to 15 yards. A 10-second runoff will occur when an injury to an offensive player necessitates the clock stopping with less than two minutes remaining in a half or game and the offense doesn't have any timeouts. The defense can decline the runoff. And an airborne player trying to score must get some part of the football over or inside the goal-line pylon before landing out of bounds.

I never really trusted him with the ball for some reason.

I don't know why.
