I saw that. How do you have the slowest man on the field spying the quarterback?

I'm not so sure about that. He was standing out in the middle of the field (there were no Olineman within 5 yards of him), and Cutler basically just ran right past him for 30 yards. At least on this particular play where the WR's cleard out the entire middle of the field, Hampton was very exposed. I'm not questioning his ability to play NT, but when slow QB's pick up 30 yards by smoking the guy who's sole assignment was to prevent that very thing from happening, this was a bad match-up.
I also saw where Tomlin commented on the play and said "We weren't where we were supposed to be" Either way, I don't expect to see Hampton in that role again.

Quote:
The LB or Ends will come around on contain and try to collapse the pocket. The inside blockers will push up, creating a seam for the QB to run out of if he chooses... the spy covers the seam. My question is, did the seam create where it should have, or did one of the rushers get moved out of place creating a second seam and thus blowing up the play? |

Only if the seam he was supposed to cover was 15 yards deep and 63 yards wide.
Something went wrong with that play. We'll probably never know anymore than Tomlin's "We weren't where we were supposed to be".
