Ward moves closer to Stallworth's record
By Scott Brown TRIBUNE-REVIEW Monday, October 29, 2007 Steelers receiver Hines Ward had two touchdown receptions Sunday against Cincinnati, moving him closer to Hall of Famer John Stallworth in that category. Ward needs three more touchdown receptions to pass Stallworth for first place on the Steelers' all-time list. Ward (61) and Stallworth are the only players in franchise history to catch at least 60 touchdown passes. "I've worked by butt off to be mentioned with those guys," Ward said of Stallworth and Lynn Swann. Ward says the sprained knee that caused him to miss two games earlier this season is still not 100 percent. "It's getting better and better each week," said Ward, who had eight receptions for 88 yards yesterday. ? Dan Kreider sprained his ankle during the Steelers' first offensive possession yesterday. The veteran fullback didn't return, depriving him of what would have been his biggest role to date in the Steelers' offense. "He's a good isolation blocker," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said of Kreider, who again started over Carey Davis at fullback. "We wanted to attack downhill on some bubbles." Translation: the Steelers planned to go with a power running attack, something that didn't change after Kreider went down. "The guys stayed the course," Tomlin said. ? Anthony Smith, who started in place of Ryan Clark (abdomen) at free safety, turned in a team-high eight tackles and delivered several big hits in the secondary. In addition to Clark, defensive end Aaron Smith (ankle) and cornerback Bryant McFadden (ankle) didn't play. ? Also inactive for the Steelers were wide receiver Willie Reid, running back Gary Russell, offensive tackle Trai Essex, guard/center Darnell Stapleton and quarterback Brian St. Pierre. Running back Rudi Johnson (hamstring) and offensive tackle Willie Anderson (knee) were among the Bengals' inactive players. |

...and to think that we tried our best to sit him by drafting two 1st round WR's in two years.

The route that Hines ran against Leon Hall is one that Stallworth would be very proud of.

Hines is a class act in ability and attitude and a great Steeler.

When this cat gets up with a smile after getting clobbered and a reception all I smell is Steeler victory.
The mindtrip is that I think that we miss his blocking more than his receiving. In no way am I knocking his value as a receiver. It's just that he is such a great football player and that means you know how to block. What a difference. As far as history I look at it with all three mentioned at once. Who can doubt the inevitable for HW. Adding a HM and SH wouldn't hurt. |
