Default Still holding off 100-yard rushers

Steelers still holding off 100-yard rushers
By Scott Brown
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Tuesday, October 30, 2007

The Steelers' streak of not allowing a 100-yard rusher is intact -- but just barely. Cincinnati Bengals running back Kenny Watson ran for 88 yards on 19 carries Sunday and might have gotten the chance to go over 100 yards had James Harrison not stripped the Penn State graduate of the ball and recovered the fumble with approximately three-and-half minutes left in the game.

"Almost," Harrison said after the Steelers' 24-13 win, "but no cigar."

The Steelers have not allowed a 100-yard rusher in 32 games. Watson came closest to breaking the streak since Jacksonville's Fred Taylor ran for 92 yards on 22 carries against the Steelers on Sept. 18, 2006. Next up for the Steelers is Baltimore's Willis McGahee, who has rushed for 639 yards in seven games.

? The Steelers didn't sack Carson Palmer, and they didn't force their first turnover until late in the game.

"I could care less if we got a sack," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. "We kept a good offense out of the end zone. We held them to 13 points, and we were able to get a win. I mean it when I say we are not concerned about stats."

? Think Santonio Holmes finds an extra gear when he is playing against teams from the Buckeye State? In his past five games against Cleveland and Cincinnati, the former Ohio State standout has caught 21 passes for 422 yards and three touchdowns.

Digits

12 - Percentage of third downs converted by the Steelers in two games against the Ravens in 2006.

55 - Percentage of third downs converted by the Steelers through seven games this season.

That goes to show us we can stop any teams ability to run, so lets shut down there whole offense while were at it!

If our run D plays like they did vs the bungholes, McGahee could easily top 100 yds.

Eason was getting dominated, they should consider starting Hoke in his place
