Shady Side's Farrell picks Penn State

Shady Side Academy offensive lineman Mike Farrell has made a verbal commitment to Penn State.

Farrell, 6 feet 6, 280-pounds, is projected to play tackle for the Nittany Lions. He chose Penn State over Miami of Ohio.

"I liked everything I saw in both places, but what it came down to is that I liked Penn State just a little more," Farrell said. "I am definitely grateful for the opportunity. I am going to redshirt next year and definitely use the year to get bigger and stronger."

Farrell plans to sign with Penn State on Feb. 6, national letter of intent signing day.

Over the Miami Redhawks huh? I guess that makes Penn State the Class of the MAC. Oh wait.....Penn State lost to Toledo.

They might be able to if Penn State wasn't busy changing Paterno's diapers and scheduling powerhouse teams like Coastal Carolina.

Well, they also had Arkansas State on the schedule before buying them out and replacing them with Oregon State. A bit more of a "respectable game"

Bottom line, I don't know why they're stooping to a Pitt level by scheduling D 1-AA's. We have that 2 years in a row. 2009 we have Eastern Illinois. I don't see why not rid them and try to get a 2 year deal from Oregon State.

u look at like penn state doesn't wan to play pitt or any other powerhouse team.. maybe the more accurate say would be that they don't want to play PSU..

Yeah and start to even the total of games hosted between both schools. If Pitt wants a respectable non-conference schedule Penn State is a good step in the right direction. The best one they have on the 2008 Schedule is Iowa, and I watched Penn State pretty much beat them down the whole game. Iowa should be able to walk all over Pitt because that D is a joke down there and Pitt has not faired well with the Big Ten Power as of late.

Charged players booted from team

UNIVERSITY PARK ? Three Penn State football players charged in connection with a campus fight last fall have been kicked off the team, at least temporarily, a person familiar with the players? status said Friday.

Defensive tackle Chris Baker and linebacker Navorro Bowman are awaiting trial on felony assault and other charges related to a fight in October at the campus student union in which police said one man was beaten.

Cornerback Knowledge Timmons was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct and defiant trespass stemming from an incident after the fight.

The three players are no longer with the team, though there is a possibility they could return to the squad, said the person familiar with the situation who requested anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the subject.

Team spokesman Jeff Nelson said Friday that ??three members of the squad have been excused from the team,?? but declined further comment.

Besides the criminal charges, Baker, Bowman and Timmons are facing potential disciplinary action from the university.

Baker started for most of the 2007 season, while Bowman saw significant action as a backup before his suspension. Timmons was playing primarily on special teams.
