Anthony Smith vows to curb aggression

Let's just hope Ryan Clark comes back healthy. While smith might have good upside, he still has a lot to learn, too many people got excited by a couple wide open flyball interceptions in preseason games and a big hit on Housh.

i would be really excited about a healthy steelers defense next year the way it's shaping up.

I think Anthony Smith has all the potential to become one of the top safties in the NFL. The problem is, right now all he has is potential. If he does the things he says he will do, that's a huge step to turning that potential into a reality.

If he ends up starting at any point this season, I hope it's because he beat out Ryan Clark for the job and not injury to Ryan Clark. That will tell me that he's earned the coaching staff's trust.

And about the gaurantee. Anthony Smith never used the word "gaurantee". He was asked a point blank question, who will win the football game. Would you rather have him say that the Steelers have not chance of winning. I think he said it the best way it could have been said, that if the Steelers played the way they are capable of playing they would win the game. The media blew that way out of proportion. I didn't see it as him running his mouth.

And the reason Tomlin had to address the issue in a team meeting is because of the fact it was taken out of context and turned from a "we have the ability to win the game if we play out best" comment and turned into a "gaurantee" due to the media twist.

His statements before the Pat's game were so overglorified by the press it wasn't even funny. That just shows you ESPN will do anything for a story. But even if the 'Burgh didn't give it to 'em, the Cheatriots still got theirs.

i just hope we can stay healthy in the later stages of the season and still have 1 of the top def and top running game..

Even though overplayed, a young player needs to keep his mouth shut and talk about "If we play our best, we have the talent to win" but not gaurentee a win. That's just silly.

it wasn't the gaurentee that burres made in the sB. burress just came out and said we will win, smith came out and said if we play to the ability they know they can they can win

"People keep asking me if we're ready for the Patriots," Smith said. "They should be asking if they're ready for us."

"We're going to win," Smith said. "Yeah, I can guarantee a win. As long as we come out and do what we got to do. Both sides of the ball are rolling, and if our special teams come through for us, we've got a good chance to win."

Althouth he said as a disclaimer "as long as we come out..." he did say, "I can gaurentee" and that is all that was focussed on. fairly or not, he said it, and then he did bite on play action and get burned.

It was totally blown out of proportion, no doubt. I like the kid and hope he turns into something special. I'm an Anthony Smith fan, I love the way he knocks people's teeth out when he hits them. Chad Johnson knows his name.

If anyone watched Stan last night there was a caller that asked about the gurantee that Smith made compared to what Burress said. Stan said that the reporter that asked the question first asked Smith twice about the gurantee, and then once other reporters heard about it that they went and asked Smith personally if he was going to stand by that statement, and everytime each reporter asked him he said the same thing. Smith made a gurantee, and there is not side stepping that, he not only said it once but he told different reporters the same thing each time he was asked.

Watched the same show that night. A caller called in and tried the whole "it's the media's fault" excuse for Smith opening his mouth and Savern corrected him immediately. Much like how Tomlin corrected Smith this past season and how LeBeau corrected Smith the year before.

I'm not doubting Smith's talent even though he's still raw and if he feels the need to talk trash on the field, go for it. Before the game, just keep your mouth shut.
