John Harris writes garbage on a regular basis and apparently has nobody at theTrib-Review who knows or cares enough to be able to edit his work

There were reporters just as bad in pre-Internet days, but between having access to other, credible reported sources of information and posters that know their stuff on message boards such as this forum it does not take long for a clown like Harris to be exposed

I agree it all rides on this years draft that will decide his future with the steelers.

The Steelers are not prepared to pay Max Starks $7 mil a season. They only tagged him so they can at least have first right of refusal. He will never get $7mil this season and the Steelers will pull the offer before he gets a chance to sign it.

Marvel Smith will be a 30 year old LT, 9 year veteran, on his 3rd contract with a history of back issues and they will not overpay him. If they wouldnt give a big payday to other vets with similar tenure like Porter, Wayne Gandy, John Jackson or Faneca, why would they do it for Smith....especially when there are around 8 OT prospects this year gonna be drafted in the first 2 rounds.

Smith will play out this season, as Faneca did and then hit the FA market unless he can be signed for reasonable $$, but most likely this is the last season in B&G for a really good LT.

Pretty sad what counts for journalism. This article belongs more in the gossip rags than a newspaper. Mark Madden probably thinks this guy is exaggerating just to get his article read.

I think that the Steelers will let him go myself. The man is going down hill in age and he is at the most important position on the Oline. This really means the Steelers must get a OT early in this years draft.

I agree, but he will probably play out this season at LT first.

But, if Starks doesnt sign, they might try to extend him for another 4 years.

I don't know what to think about Marvel other than giving him a big contract would be a colossal mistake.

Hot and cold games are getting more frequent. There are times when he plays well...and other times guys make him look old and fat and slow.

We need to let him go. I just hope there isn't come desperation attempt to land a contract by threatening a hold out, or skipping camp, etc....but the Rooney's don't really respond very well to that anyways.

Concur.

And I love this notion - wet dream -that the Steelers will find any offensive lineman in the first round. Our draft position blows only cold air.

I'm OK with our draft position. Its roughly the position we have been in when picking Hampton, Simmons, Faneca, Miller and trading up to get Polamalu and Holmes.

I think with all the linemen in the draft we will at least find a solid RT and even somebody that can make the move to LT in a couple seasons.

The alternative is that we suck like the Bengals and pick higher
