people loved him until he got burnt vs. the patriots. now he is considered a scrub for fighting for a job in camp, having 1 horrible game, and having an instant or 2 where he got caught up and showboated.

love him or hate him, steeler or not, i think he has potential to be a starter in this league for many years to come. some people just take more time to develop and mature than those who come from national championship type programs.

Not to mention how everyone was laughing and applauding our two LB's in the mid 90's who destroyed 3rd string QB's... even while Cowher was yelling and screaming at them...

Gay was the preseason "flavor of the week" last year, just like anthony smith was, the year prior.

who woulda thought, years ago, that (benchwarming) townsend woulda had the longest tenure out of 1st round draft pick c. scott or high profile FA d. washington.? who ever thought c. hope (after several years learning, and much critisizm) would be a highly coveted free agent? very few.


its as simple as this-

steelers rarely draft rookies to provide immediate impact becaues they rarely need to rely on a rookie to provide immediate impact.

but we live in the "ben roethlisberger era" where rookies go 13-0 in their first regular season and win the superbowl in their 2nd. eat a chrysler in their 3rd and shatter steeler passing records in their 4th...

of course that is the rare exception and not the norm.

I think Smith has a big fat mouth and talks too much. Big hiters also tend to overplay. Give me Mike Wagner. Tackle them at the knees, wrap em up and bring em down. I tend to think of the time Anthony Smith intercepted that pass and started high stepping before Lebeau pulled him off the field. It bothered me. I don’t care for a young guy doing that stuff…looks bad….

You're welcome... I found them on a couple different sites, so I thought I would save everyone the trouble and post them here.

*My favorite picture is the one of Mendenhall carrying all of the shoulder pads (I believe they are all his fellow running backs pads). Even though you were our first round pick and we are excited that you are here... you are still a rookie!!

Ron Cook's article in the PG on Ben got me REALLY excited about Ben this season. He has really turned into the elite QB he was billed as. Such a wonderful thing to know since we've struggled through QB's for a while now!
