Ohlendorf to round out six-man rotation; Cruz gets maiden shot

CINCINNATI -- The Pirates will have 10 additional players joining the club for the opening game of a three-game set Tuesday against the Reds.
As expected, the Pirates recalled two catchers -- Robinzon Diaz and Ronny Paulino -- infielder Brian Bixler and outfielder Steve Pearce. Four additional relievers -- Criag Hansen, T.J. Beam, Marino Salas and Romulo Sanchez -- will join the Pirates' bullpen, while right-hander Ross Ohlendorf will join the Pittsburgh rotation.

Ohlendorf has been named Wednesday's starter, as the Pirates begin their experimentation with a six-man rotation. After being acquired from the Yankees in late July, Ohlendorf went 4-3 with a 3.47 ERA in seven starts for Triple-A Indianapolis.

The 6-foot-4 right-hander has made 31 Major league relief appearances, but this will mark his first big league start.

Arguably the biggest surprise will be the arrival of middle infielder Luis Cruz, who is the 10th member of the callup group. Cruz, 24, started the season in Double-A Altoona, where he hit .264 with six homers and 46 RBIs in 103 games.

Cruz's results improved once he was promoted to Indianapolis, where he hit .325 with three homers and 15 RBIs in 32 games. This callup will mark Cruz's first taste of the Majors. He was signed by the Pirates as a Minor League free agent last December.

The Pirates released righty Ty Taubenheim in order to make room for Cruz on the team's 40-man roster.
i figured they would give Neil Walker a little glimpse of the pros, he must be in the Fall league too and the pirates are resting them
