Default Napa County democrats are nuts.

This post is not meant to point fingers at democrats at large, or even dems in California.

It is only meant to point at a number of hilarious liberal dems in Napa, ca. who are so sad the 60's are over, they will protest ANYTHING.

Who ever heard of PROTESTING er... RALLYING at a newspaper office because you don't like their endorsement.

Actually, I have some strange conservatives around here as well... maybe it is just the water. Thank goodness mine is filtered!

Register Staff Writer
More than 100 Democrats marched to the Napa Valley Register building Monday evening with picket signs and chants of, “Change your minds! Change your minds!”

Led by the Democrats of Napa Valley, more than 100 demonstrators picketed the Register building in downtown Napa to show their opposition to the Register editorial board’s recent endorsement of presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.
The endorsement appeared in Sunday’s newspaper, encouraging readers to remember “that we are hiring for the most important job in the nation, and that the basis for our decision must be which candidate will best execute the Office of the President of the United States and preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

“In the view of the Register,” the editorial continued, “that candidate is Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.”
The Democrats appeared just after 5 p.m. for what organizers were careful to label as a rally, not a protest.

“They have the freedom to endorse whomever they wish, but we’re out to show our support for Barack Obama,” said Marita Dorenbecher, Democrats of Napa Valley publicity chair.
Moreover, Dorenbecher said, “we feel that the Register is not accurately representing the voters in the county of Napa.”

The Register, she claimed, “is out of touch with a very large constituency in the Napa Valley.”

According to the Registrar of Voters, 47.5 percent of Napa County voters are registered as Democrats, and Republicans make up 29 percent of registered Napa County voters.

“I think there’s a disconnect (between) their readership and voters and the editorial board policy,” Sandee Dickson, Democrats of Napa Valley member, said Monday. “We’re exercising our disconnect with the disconnect.”

“They’re out of step with their customers,” local Democrat William Somerville said.

In front of the building, picket signs displayed slogans such as, “‘Register’ed bias,” and “The Register does not represent the people.”

In unison, the crowd hollered, “Napa Valley’s truly blue. Register, what’s wrong with you?”

Napa Valley Register Publisher Brenda Speth addressed the crowd, stating, “We will support every U.S. citizen’s right to their own opinion.”

Demonstrators peppered Speth with questions about the editorial board’s decision-making process, accusing her of overriding a decision by the majority of editorial board members.

Speth referred the demonstrators to previous columns that have appeared in the Register about the editorial board process. Traditionally, six members serve on the editorial board, and members range from editors to columnists. Speth herself is a member of the editorial board. Five names appear on Sunday’s editorial.

In an interview, Speth said that the editorial board followed “the same process we do for every editorial board,” which is to hold a discussion and a poll on a number of issues. The final opinion in the editorial, she said, often does not reflect a consensus among board members.

“At the end of the day, the publisher’s role is to make a final decision if there is not a consensus,” Speth said.

“I made the final decision, and I stand behind the process, and I welcome the conversation to continue on the Editorial page and on our Web site,” Speth said, adding that reader feedback she had received on the endorsement was evenly mixed between criticism and support for the Register’s endorsement.

That is VERY unusual....especially given it's the fruit and nut state, although NoCal isn't nearly as left as SoCal (but it's still probably left of 80% of the rest of the country)

My local paper was a forgone conclusion. They endorse 95% democrats, democrats for senate and house, and of course they endorsed Obama.

Obama could have sent a press release to my local paper exclaiming that he was going to institute a plan to kill all white people in America in his first 100 days and the local rag would have still backed him.

ANYONE who actually votes based on what their local paper recommends is a moron. But, sadly, there are many, manyt, MANY morons out there...
