Well on my playbook it seems more like 4-3. the base is 4 Lineman, 3 Linebackers.

Right...and I know they even have their nickle defense where the outside LB's are the defensive ends.

As others have said, the 3-4 is the base defense in Tomlin's playbook. In fact, it offers about a half dozen variations of the 3-4 defense.
I'm now playing my second season with the Steelers on Madden 09', and I too have noticed that it is particularly difficult to get sacks. I'm going into week 15, and I only have 27 sacks on the season, which oddly enough ranks me #1 in the league.

Cowher's playbook is still available on Madden 09. I hate to admit this but I use New England's 3-4 defensive playbook, it's much better than the other 3-4 books.

To get sacks, use a DE, Press R1, L1,or sprint (mix it up) and when u get close to the QB. press square and u shud dive in and hit him.
