Default Steelers offense can warm up in Florida

Steelers offense can warm up in Florida
http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/01/24/stee...up-in-florida/
Posted: Around The Web | NFL.com Staff | Tags: Nate Washington, Pittsburgh Steelers, Super Bowl XLIII

After three months of playing in cold weather, the Steelers offense is ready for a climate change. It should find just that at Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa, Fla., where the forecast calls for temperatures in the mid- to upper 70s throughout next week.

WR Nate Washington sounded like he couldnít wait when talking to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

ďWhen the hot weather comes, Iím like a kid in the candy store. You get excited to go out and play in hot weather. It makes a ton of difference. You feel good playing in nice weather.Ē

According to the Post-Gazette, the Steelers havenít played in temperatures above 48 degrees since Nov. 3, when they visited the Washington Redskins in 51-degree weather. In the last two months, Pittsburgh has played in 8-degree wind chill (at home against Dallas), in 45-degree weather (at Baltimore), in 19-degree wind chill (at Tennessee), in 48-degree weather with 22-mph winds (at home against Cleveland), in 26-degree weather and snow (in a home playoff victory over San Diego) and in 26-degree weather and light snow (last week at home against Baltimore).

So donít be surprised if the Steelers are smiling and soaking in the sunshine when they step off the plane Monday in Florida. It appears warmer weather gives offensive players an advantage.

As the Post-Gazette notes, the NFLís top five receivers in terms of yards ó Houstonís Andre Johnson, Arizonaís Larry Fitzgerald, Carolinaís Steve Smith, Atlantaís Roddy White and Detroitís Calvin Johnson ó all play in warm-weather cities or domes.

I was back-in S.W. Taxylvania the week of the Chargers game, and left for our home in central Florida the day-after:
17* when we left, and only mid 50*s when we arrived

had a few mornings this week where it was just low-to-mid 20*s over-night, but yesterday (Saturday 24 Jan) was the first day back into the 70*s since we left Florida almost 3 weeks ago.

Local TV called for mid-to-high 70*s all-week thru Saturday 31 Jan, and sunny skies except for Thursday

Was cold this morning down here around 60 degrees. Had to sleep in a sweatshirt and heavy cotton pants.

It's almost funny going south when you live up north.

I went down to south carolina one winter...was in the 20's in central PA, and almost 60 down there.

I'm walking around in shorts and a t-shirt thinking how great it was...people down there were walking around in sweatshirts, coats, long pants....

Hope it snows.

I don't think the warm weather gives either team an advantage over the other. Fitz played his college years in cold, blustery Pittsburgh. If he's gonna burn ya, he's gonna burn ya, but he isn't gonna burn the Steelers - they'll be ready for him.
