Never was exposed to Rugby untill I came to China, there's alot of Australian, New Zealand, and British expats here.

I play flyhalf that is where its at, I get to touch the ball every time and get to make a lot of tackles, there is no competition being a back is so much better than being a scrummie

Getting excited about that (gotta love 7's - it's insanely quick!), and the World Cup next month!! (Not that it'll get any coverage overhere! )

On the whole rugby union is a tired worn out old football game. Basicly it's a game for people to play that are not good enough to play the tougher more skilled and faster paced game of rugby league. Rugby League broke away from rugby union in 1895 and formed a faster more skilled game than the hasbeen rugby union had become,

The tired worn out old football game still has a legitimate world cup. On the international scale Rugby League only dwarfs the AFL ( which has given up on that idea). Rugby League has to keep asking itself - If it is so much faster, more skillful and better than rugby union why hasnt it become the world wide phenomenon it craves.

I dont think you can ever say that Rugby is a dumping ground for lower skilled and slower players. You know that many of the best NRL players were the product of a rugby union upbringing and vice versa for union players.

I am a fan of all four football codes in Australia (plus NFL) but Rugby League is doing its best to alienate its fanbase with moronic off field behaviour and pig headed views of old school commentators and journalists.

If League and Union dont get their acts together soon they are going to be the 3rd and 4th string options behind Soccer and AFL.

I made the switch away from rugby league when Super League broke and I have lost interest in Rugby Union due to the negative approach taken in test matches.

I find myself eagerly awaiting the NFL season and I have more interest in the NFL draft than the start of the Australian Rugby League & Union seasons. The preseason game shown last week was the most anticipated football game for me since the superbowl win.

Over the last 16 years I can honestly say that I have watched more NFL games than both league and union games combined ( and in a way that is sad considering I am a true blue aussie)

More skilled? I take great umbrage to that.

Union is definitely as if not more skilled than league. it takes more instincts than skill to run, scissor, and break free.

Union, where must always be running TO support, yet from tackles, knowing when to ruck and maul, and when to get out for the scrummies to take over, then to make decisions on flexing weak and strong sides on the fly, on TOP of running, scissoring, and possible breaking free, is a more quick thinking, skill sport.

After all, when was the last time YOU saw a ruck march the ball down the field while it is being turned in a league game? The combination of strength, awareness, and decision-making in union vastly outweighs its equivalent in league.

What you say is why everybody in NSW is calling rugby union...RUGBY YAWNION it is the truth compared to league union has become as boring to watch as dryed out paint peeling from a wall.

Take last Saturday nights test match between the New Zealand All Blacks and the Australian Wallabies, the result a 19 to 18 win to the All Blacks. That score line is a total of 37 points scored but yet only 1 try was scored in the game. That my friend equals a very boring tired game. Even the Kiwi coach agrees.

Also take the best rugby league players and the best rugby union players in the world and put them up against each other. Playing 1 game of rugby league and 1 game of rugby union. The winner is decided by which team scores the most amount of points, with all aspects of scoring being the same points. 5 points for a try, 2 points for a try conversion goal, 2 points for a penalty goal, 1 point for a field goal. The end result every time would be a massive win to the rugby league team. The rugby union know this and that is why rugby union would never agree to such a game because they know they would loose every time.

As for the best spectical of either rugby game, that happened in the 1980's and 1990's, in rugby league in Australia it was and still is the 3 games played every year between NEW SOUTH WALES BLUES vs QUEENSLAND MAROONS. Known as State Of Origin Rugby League, The games they put on back then were far better than anything seen in any rugby union world cup.
