Bears release Booker, one of franchise's most productive receivers
Associated Press

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Chicago Bears released wide receiver Marty Booker on Friday, cutting ties with a former Pro Bowl selection who struggled with injuries last season.

Chicago Bears

2008 Statistics
Games: 13
Catches: 14
Yards: 211
TDs: 2
The Bears also released linebacker Gilbert Gardner and waived linebacker Marcus Riley.

Booker had just 14 catches for 211 yards and two touchdowns while bothered by knee, hamstring and rib problems. He missed three games late in the season and didn't catch a pass the final two.

He signed a two-year deal last March after spending the previous four seasons in Miami.

Booker spent his first five seasons in Chicago before getting dealt to the Dolphins in August 2004. He's tied for third on the Bears' career list with 329 receptions and ranks sixth with 3,895 yards receiving. In his career, Booker has 523 receptions for 6,522 yards and 36 touchdowns.

Not really a shocker here. Booker had two excellent seasons in the early 2000's and really has never returned to that level of play again. He's in his early 30's and I'm sure someone will pick him up as a #3 or #4 WO.

Just more proof to me that the Bears will take Percy Harvin or Jeremy Maclin in the draft.

I'd take Booker as an option for a #3 if the Steelers don't re-sign Nate Washington.

Booker, and Robinson were a pretty good WR tandem in Chicago. Sad both of them had injuries.

Jeremy Macklin is the bomb. I had the privilege of watching him all his years in Columbia.
