Pens' first three games to be televised nationally

The first three games of the Penguins' second-round playoff series against Washington will be televised nationally.

NBC will carry Game 1, set for 1:08 p.m. Saturday at the Verizon Center in Washington. Versus will have Game 2 at 7:08 p.m. Monday in Washington and Game 3 at 7:08 p.m. Wednesday in Mellon Arena.

Games 4-7 are scheduled to be shown on FSN Pittsburgh.

The only question I have is will the Craps' owner try to block anyone from the Pittsburgh area from buying tickets again like he did a couple of years ago. Because if not, you know there will be a HUGE contingent of Pens fans in the Verizon Center, especially for Saturday's game.

Eh, it gives the Pens 2 extra days' rest too, so it's no big deal.

Neither team is going to win this series in 5 games. I think we're looking at another long series, 6 or 7 games.

that's garbage. the Pens dont need extra rest because they took care of business which used to be rewarded. Considering Washington doesn't have to travel at all, there is no reason they shouldnt start the series on Thursday

Pens are the better team. I live in DC and have watched most of their games. They are vastly overrated. Their D is weak. The wildcard is Varlamov who looks good but the Rangers didn't have the offensive firepower to really challenge him

Yeah, you're right. Now I do think it's bogus because of the Craps already being at home. I think TV is the reason why the schedule is what it is, though.

I think the teams are evenly matched with the Pens getting the edge on D and in goal. You are right that Varlamov was not tested by the Rangers, and it'll be interesting to see how he handles the likes of Crosby, Malkin, Staal and Gonchar firing pucks at him. As I said in another thread, I think the Pens break him by game 3, assuming of course that the Pens come to play every night.

The NHL must be in their glory with this match-up. The only better option would be if it had come one playoff round later.

I made a mistake in the other thread about the Pens dominance over the Caps in the playoffs - their only win against the Pens in all of those matchups in the 90s was in 1994, not 1998 - they didn't play each other that year. Maybe that's why the Caps were able to get to the SCF instead of being knocked out AGAIN by the Pens. They met 6 times in 11 seasons from 1991-2001, and the Pens won 5 times, twice coming back from 3-1 deficits. Here's hoping history repeats itself.

BTW, Malkin was officially named a Hart Trophy candidate today, but we all know who's going to win it. Why they even bothered to announce the candidates in the first place is beyond me.
