Weak what? I said I feel the ACC is better than the BIG 10 at this point. Not individual teams better than one another.

Again, in a severely down year, the Big Ten still equaled the ACC in top 25 representation. So, at best, you could maybe say they were equal. However, it's much more accurate to judge these trends over multiple seasons because single seasons are subject to pretty wild fluctuations.

Indeed. But they ALWAYS miss out on the best from here, especially kids who really want to play there and are academic assets as well. Remember Ron Pawlus? I know someone is gonna salm him for his ND performance, but the kid went after the education. If he would have played in a non-option based offense, he may have won those two heismans.

There is a ton on the list. They may lose one of our boys here to Illinois or Michigan State this year, and he REALLY wants to got to PSU for medicine.

Sooner or later, they are going to lose NJ to Rutgers. As programs get better the dominoes will fall. Time to start looking harder at home!

Penn State doesn't miss out on these prospects on purpose. A lot of top programs recruit the state of Pennsylvania

And they dont always miss out on them

They get a ton of recruits from New Jersey and Maryland because they are close by and a better school than any in those states

here's this years recruits they stole from MD .....i hate penn state.....

in contast to the 8 players they plucked from MD....they got 7 recruits out of PA.... ...all i can say is that if UMD ever builds a solid football program and actually ever starts retaining MD talent....PSU is doomed !!!

Penn State just picked up a recruit from PA today (Alex Kenney, the man is speed demon). Not to mention Penn State just doesn't rely on Maryland for out of state athletes. They look at New Jersey(Which it won't surprise me if Greg Schiano who is a rumored successor to JoePA stays firm under their grasp.), Ohio, Virginia, Illinois, North Carolina, New York, etc. They don't just rely on Maryland.

It is interesting that they take so much talent from one other state. But the KEY to success in a populated state is securing your own best in-state talent.

Out of 20 recruits in 2008, OSU's breakdown was:
Ohio- 9
Florida- 4
Maryland- 1
Texas- 1
PA- 2
GA- 1
MN- 1
Illinois- 1

It's like that every year. If you look at teams like Nebraska and Oklahoma, it's the same. They recruit some top guys from other states, but their bread and butter is wrapping up their own best in-state players.
