Views from Steelers Training Camp: Day 5
August 5, 6:00 PMPittsburgh Steelers Examiner Daniel Flickinger http://www.examiner.com/x-14024-Pitt...ing-Camp-Day-5 Wednesday's views from Steelers training camp at St. Vincent College in Latrobe: No update on Stapleton There was speculation around St. Vincent today that starting right guard Darnell Stapleton’s knee injury may be extend well into the season if not the entire year. When asked about his status, Head Coach Mike Tomlin said “I’ll talk (about the injury) when I’m ready to talk”. Stapleton’s swelled knee looked as if it should be hit over a volleyball net yesterday rather than be part of his body. MRI results have yet to come back. T-Rex INT His teammates believe his arms are too short for his body, which earned third-string nose tackle Scott Paxson his nickname of “T-Rex”. Today, Paxson used those same arms to make a nice over the shoulder interception of Charlie Batch on a fake punt attempt. He proceeded to do a dinosaur type dance in the end zone which drew a big reaction from the crowd. He was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2006. Tackle Capizzi pushing hard to make the team IUP’s Jason Capizzi has looked pretty good so far in camp and is challenging to make the 53-man roster as a back-up tackle. The 6’9” 330 pounder has spent his three seasons in the league with the Steelers and Vikings but trained against elite defensive end Paul Allen while in Minnesota. He still has some holes and at times gets routinely beaten in drills, but looks better this year than he did the past two. When will he practice? Ben rests Reciever Hines Ward watched practice in street clothes for the fourth straight day today. Ward says he wants to practice but Tomlin is still resting him and wants to give the younger guys a look. Ben Roethlisberger also didn’t practice today because of a sore shoulder, although Tomlin said he was going to give him a day of rest anyways. He’s expected to practice tomorrow. Troy Polamalu was also held out again. He "said it"... Cornerback Ike Taylor told a contingent of media today that he believed the three fastest players on the team are: “me, (rookie receiver) Mike Wallace, and (safety) Troy Polamalu.” The only guy on the team with a nickname that includes “Fast” Willie Parker, did not make Taylor’s list. |

XT and I were at TC today and it was awesome!
Mike Wallace defintely is a speedster with good hands. I think this kid is going to be damned good. ![]() Stefan Logan looked pretty impressive on his returns - made several great moves to dupe the ST defenders. ![]() The OL looks almost ominous, especially with Urbik and Shipley - Holy Mother of GOD is Urbik a gargantuan! Ziggy Hood's definitely got the moves and the grooves - he looked very good and quite intimidating ![]() It was great seeing the guys getting charged up and down with each other and there were a few pushing and shoving matches after the play(s). Coaches love that stuff! ![]() Ben and Hines were on the field but did not practice. Hines was playing the pied piper - he was running on the extra field with about 6 of the players' kids (including his own adorable little one). ![]() Overall the team looked pretty damned good and it was very refreshing to see the guys not only working hard but having FUN! ![]()

So glad to hear all the good news coming out of camp. I am really jealous of those who can actually attend camp. Living in Las Vegas makes it impossible for me but keep sending those reports out to us. Makes me want this season to get started really soon.
