"I think the redraft, while improved, remains troubling due to its vagueness," said Larry Clinton, president of the Internet Security Alliance, which counts representatives of Verizon, Verisign, Nortel, and Carnegie Mellon University on its board. "It is unclear what authority Sen. Rockefeller thinks is necessary over the private sector. Unless this is clarified, we cannot properly analyze, let alone support the bill."
Representatives of other large Internet and telecommunications companies expressed concerns about the bill in a teleconference with Rockefeller's aides this week, but were not immedia. . .

I am split on this...

1. I never like the govt. to have powers which can control the way I live... however

2. The fact of the matter is, the internet was an invention for the military to provide command and control communication in the event of a nuclear attack. While it's growth has taken it FAR FAR away from its original use, I still see the U.S. govt. as being the final underlying controller, and they really haven't ever given up total control, even though you really can't control the net. So in reality, it IS a govt. service and therefore subject to the govt.

Funny aint it. They condemn the way Iran rans its government and we are heading for the same thing. Rockefeller needs voted out. Im damn embarassed he is my state senator. What happened to freedom of speech? I dont gave a damn what party has control of the government I think we can all agree that it was bad under the Republicans and is getting worse under the Democrats.

Just remember when hearing "emergency control of the internet", which gives the President "shut it down" power, that his regulatory Czar, Cass R. Sunstein, has expressed his desire in the past to "balance the internet". Hmmmm.

Seriously though, I DO NOT consider the net as Government property despite it's origin.

IF! If they claim ownership then why the hell have they let it get OUT OF CONTROL when it comes to the content ( see 2 girls and a cup)

For one, by claiming ownership of the internet they can throw extra charges and or taxes on it.

Hilarious. I wonder what the response would have been had the Previous Administration suggested power to "shut down the internet"

Do they plan on shutting down phone lines too? Short Wave Radios? Satellite TV?

Makes me wonder.

Bush is a tyrant. He is out of control. Drunk with power. We need change. Bush is moving us into a recession with his out of control spending. He is a war monger. Sending innocent young men to their deaths in the Middle East. Hmm I think I may have covered it all there.
