PITTSBURGH- This is the third edition of Steelers game day poll provided by the contingent of Pittsburgh Examiner writers (Matt Pawlikowski, Shawn McCullough, Steve Flinn and Chris Adamski) who are live from the Heinz Field Press box each and every home Steeler game.

Look for our comments on who we think are the offensive defensive and newcomer MVP's and plays of the game throughout the season. Here is Charges edition.

Offensive - Mendenhall. Who else.

Defensive - This is a tough one considering they all most blew yet another one in the end. You have to go with Lawrence Timmons who did a nice job especially when he was on Antonio Gates.

Play of the Game - Roethlisberger's pass to Mike Wallace deep left during the opening series. It set up the first score.

Offensive- The name of the day - Rashard. Not only did Mendenhall have his breakout game against the Chargers, he hit the 100 yard platau for the first time in his career, scored his first touchdowns and more important kept the ball out of Phillip Rivers hands.

Defensive - Rashard Mendenhall. What? Ahh wrong slot Pawlikowski. Well think about it. When the run game is flowing smooth as it was with Mendenhall toting the ball, it kept the Chargers potent offense off the field. In the first half alone, the Steelers ability to control the ball (22:52 to 7:08) enabled them to jump out to a 21-0 lead.

Play of the game - The entire contest was highlight film for the Steelers, but one play in particular comes to mind, Mendenhall's first touchdown. The reason was simple. Tackle Doug Legursky reported as a tackle eligible and plowed the way through the line scrimmage as the fullback.

Offensive player of the game: Rashard Mendenhall: he brought the running game back to the steelers and was a one-man wrecking crew

Defensive player of the game: James Harrison

Newcomer of the game: Keiwan Ratliff for his work on special teams

Play of the game: moore halfback option pass to heath miller for the 6 yard td, helped the steelers regain the momentum and give the Steelers a 35-14 lead after Sd was given the cheap touchdown on the alleged punt return fumble by Logan.

Honorable mention: Hines Ward 18 yard catch where he bowled over would-be tacklers to the SD 6 yard line previous to Moore's touchdown pass

"I've been putting a smiley face next to that play every time we run it in practice. I was just waiting for it to get called." running back Mewelde Moore on his six yard touchdown pass.
