Post Steelers sign Gibson...

The Steelers signed the third of their eight draft picks Tuesday when they came to an agreement with fourth-round selection Fred Gibson.
The former Georgia wide receiver inked a three-year deal that will pay him $230,000 this season, $310,000 in '06 and $385,000 in '07, in addition to a $296,000 signing bonus. He joins sixth-round pick OG Chris Kemoeatu and fifth-round selection LB Rian Wallace as Steelers signees.

Gibson, 6-foot-4, 219 pounds, has looked solid during the Steelers' voluntary workouts, displaying the skills that earned him first-team All-Southeastern Conference honors last season for the Bulldogs. He had 49 catches for 801 yards with seven scores in '04.

"They think Fred can come in and be a big help," said Gibson's agent, Doug Hendrickson. "A lot of people had him graded as a round one or round two guy, so they know they got a great player in Fred. The key for him is learning the system."

Gibson is seen as a potential replacement for 6-5 Plaxico Burress, who signed with the New York Giants this offseason. Gibson would likely be used in a backup role this fall, in addition to being a part of the Steelers' multi-receiver sets.

"He brings an added dimension in terms of his size, speed and athletic ability," Hendrickson said. "Especially in the red zone."

What is the status of Heath Miller getting signed? I know he is a first round pick, but does a TE really garner that much money?

Its all pecking order. Once the agents know what the 7th rounder gets then they can leverage for the 6th and so on. Nothing shady, just business. But once we get the #1 signed then we can sign Ward.

If he plays as good as his former BB coach says, he will get millions in a few years!
